Are your twins an "excuse"?

Ok, even before the kids were born, my being pregnant with twins was a huge excuse. I got out of junk phone calls and people asking for donations for things. I just had to say that we were expecting twins and it was not in our budget, or we did not have the time....or whatever. It always worked! When the twins were born, it worked even better. I still use them as an excuse to get out of donating to the circus coming to town or going door to door for such-and-such a foundation. It'd not that we are not charitable...we give over 12% of our income as it is. But when it comes to junk phone calls or solicitation, the twins card works every time. Anyone else find yourself doing this?

I have used the " I have twin babies" excuse to get out of jury duty for 2 years in a row. I think this year I will try to do be a good american and just do it!!

Yep, I do too. And it does work. I'm guilty, but don't feel bad for the junk phone calls.

I use it, but find that it's usually a valid excuse. Like when someone wants to go somewhere that is not 100% kid friendly, I often use the twins excuse.

I use it to get out of doing things that people want me to volunteer for. DH also used it to get out of most extra work commitments and travel for the first year. Alas, it was starting to do harm to his career, so he had to suck it up and start traveling and serving on committees again.

LOL, I've used them as an excuse to get off the phone (oh, I can't talk anymore my twins are waking up from their nap). I've also used them as an excuse when people are asking for money. Unfortunately I've had to use them as an excuse to not donate blood. I use to be a regular donor, so the blood bank calls me to donate. I went once to donate when the kids were small, the woman on the phone assured me I could donate with my babies. When I got there the people were very upset and said that children could not be in the area where people donate. Luckily a nurse was kind enough to push the babies in their stroller, but I'm not going back there again with my kids.

They got me out of jury duty last summer...but it was a valid excuse (they were 3 mos old).

I do play the twins card as much as possible...and I have to admit, I DON'T feel guilty at all - I've earned a couple of hall passes...we all have. [IMG]

Not so much for solicitors, but for getting out of functions. They make a convenient excuse!

Guilty as charged! I'm wondering how long this "excuse" is good for???

I haven't had too many opportunities to use the twin excuse. I am trying to use it to get out of a wedding that is far away in June.
The funny thing though is at Target the guys out front who usually ask for money don't ask me anymore when I am by myself with all 3 boys. They just say Hi or Godbless.

My favorite time to use them as an excuse, especially with all four girls, is when the mall poll takers ask me if I have a minute. I just look at them and say, "You're kidding right?" Like I have the time to stop and test a lotion or answer 20 questions while trying to keep four kids from getting bored. I don't think so...

Well not with 4 girls but with my twins. I say the same thing to them. I am guilty of using my twins as an excuse too.

I haven't used them so much as that type of excuse, but for the rest of my life "I have twins" will be my excuse for anything stupid that I do or say or forget to do or say. People just nod reassuringly and say things like "I only had one at a time, I can't even imagine . . ."

My DH is Croatian. There is a Croatian community here, large enough to include many people we don't know personally (DH's mother knows most of them), but small enough that everyone gets invited to everyone's weddings. One summer we got invitations to 5 weddings. This means a gift of $100 minimum for each, plus getting a babysitter for our twins (not my MIL, because she is invited to as is DH's half of the family...cousins aunts etc.). Luckily the first two years with the twins gave us a legitimate excuse to bow out. I loved having them as an excuse not to go to weddings for people who are essentially strangers.

I don't use them as an excuse for charities though. I research and select all the charities I give money to and I NEVER give to people who solicit by coming to my door or by telemarketing. I have no problem telling people this personal policy of mine. I find that kind of solicitation invasive, because they always manage to call at the worst possible times.

Not so much with the solicitations, usually its a recording these days and I just hang up. But for boreing parties...gotta go, the twins are getting fussy...whatever. Or DH will use it to get home earlier, gotta go the twins are giving my wife a hard time.

I just used it when my DD's T-Ball dierector called.

    HE said
"We are looking for volunteers to help with the fields, and to help watch the kids every game."

    My reply was...
"Well I have 16 month old twins, but I am sure my husband would like to help!" [IMG]!

Needless to say he was less than thrilled and is now the other coach! [IMG]

Hmm. My wife pulled that one on me too. I ended up being a coach for 3-4 year old Basketball.

Have you ever tried to teach a 3 year old how to Dribble?
