Are your kids wearing deodorant?

Since school has started, one of my girls comes home musty. I am in shock! Isn't this too young???? They do ride a hot school bus for over an hour each day. Should I be concerned that she is getting musty at this age????

And what kind of deodorant is good for a child so young?

Ok, now I am worried (why do I google things??) Should I call my pediatrician about this? Apparently, based on my search, this is not normal and could be a serious problem.

My ds started wearing it right before he turned 7. My dd started wearing about the same time.

They use Tom's of Maine since it doesn't have the aluminum in it. I think anything with an anti-persperant has the aluminum in it (But i could be mistaken).

Thanks! I did end up putting a call in to my pediatrician. The nurse I talked to said she thought it was "normal" for a very sweaty child. She has always been a sweaty child, even as a baby. Nurse told me not to worry and that she would have my Dr. call me to recommend something to use.

Glad to hear that. It's always nice to be reassured!

Thanks Heather. My Dr. called me and just suggested to use Dial soap for her armpits and that it is normal and can be affected by what the kids eat, which I don't quite understand because Megan eats healthy. But anyway, she said she is not concerned and just see if the antibacterial soap helps.

You probably saw in that other thread that I mentioned food, it doesn't necessarily have to be unhealthy food. It can be spices etc.

Any deodorant soap (deodorant soap is what I was told, not antibacterial) will help, we use Irish Spring Sport. I didn't realize that some soaps were deodorant but sure enough it says right on the label under the brand name.

We had this problem with my stepson. His mother was always sending him with deodorant--from the age of 5. My husband was ticked off about it because he didn't think it was age appropriate, so he took it away. Sure enough my stepson did have smelly pits, but the deodorant just masked it.

However, we still didn't want him to wear that deodorant, so my husband went into the shower, and monitored him. He was using some Bath and Body Works perfuming soap, and wasn't washing himself thoroughly. We switched him to Irish Spring, and monitored him in the shower to make sure he washed his pits. It really helped.

My SD was wearing deodorant by 6 we used to joke with her and ask if she was working at a hoagie shop instead of going to school. She is almost 11 and their was no serious problem as a result of having BO at an early age....don't worry just get her Secret it works the best the Teen ones with the fruity flavors did not work my SD's BO was much stronger...lol...GL!
