    [SIZE=12pt]2 Dowel-reinforced Sliding Closet Doors $3.89
    1 Tension Rod-Equiped Bookshelf $4.99
    1 Sock-legged Coffee Table $0
    1 Multi-purpose latch for stove drawer $2.99

    Outsmarting your toddlers...PRICELESS!

Sorry some of the pics came out blurry (we need a new camera). By the way...

The dowels work GREAT on the sliding closet doors (GREAT suggestion, thanks to Rosie19 & Naomi02)...I got 5/8" dowels (I wanted them STURDY), and splurged an extra $0.32 on rubber feet to keep them from marring the walls. I can't even make the doors budge with the dowels in place. :)

The coffee table has been a magnet for falling babies since the day we started pulling up (and BOY have we had the bruises to proove it) . We got the big elastic pad for the edge and have been using throw pillows to cover the feet, but now that the boys are running all over the house, the pillows were actually causing them to fall MORE. Couldn't figure out a way to keep the legs padded with something they wouldn't just rip right off. So far, my socks work like a charm.

Now, if baby-proofing didn't make my house look so....baby proofed!

:rotflmbo: This just made me laugh out loud!!! It is too funny.

I'm glad you finally outsmarted your boys. Hopefully they won't figure it all out in a few days. ;)

You are right about the how baby proofing makes your house look, but oh well it won't be for long right!

I LOVE the tension bars on the bookshelf! My boys spend all day taking my books off the bookshelf. I think i have a trip to KMart planned in the near future!!

Do you think the dowels would work on a sliding glass door?? hhmmm.....

Thanks for the pics...and the ideas. I love them. :D

I can't take credit for the dowels..that goes to Rosie19 & Naomi02...but it is a truly inspired idea! I think they would work great with sliding patio door...I would certainly splurge for the rubber feet for extra cusion and also get a pretty thick dowel. I got 5/8" dowels and they seem very sturdy.

My tip for the bookshelf: get the biggest tension rods you can find (my mom tried this with 1/2" rods and they aren't quite as baby-proof as my 1" rods). Put the rod 1/2 way between the top and bottom of the shelf and as close up against the books as you can...if there's room betwen the books and the rod they'll just mangle them. Also, keep the shelf as full of books as you can so they can't gorilla them back and forth within the shelf.

I'm glad others are as excited about this as I was...Seriously, I was giggling with clever delight all evening as I watched them try and fail over and over again. They've been outsmarting my attempts to keep them out of these things for WEEKS! I was so excited I called my mother to tell her all about it. Man, I need a life!

i do think the dowel rod or at least the tension rod would work on the sliding glass door. I might even have to try it myself.

I use a gate for the sliding glass doors. Instead of putting it on their level, I've got it up high and they've not been able to reach to pull it down yet. Yes, it looks sooo baby proofed! LOL

Let me know and I"ll get a picture taken and posted.

I love the socks on the table1 :bow2:

Do you know if that multipurpose latch would work for the oven or would the oven be too hot if it were on?

    Great ideas!

The instructions actually specifically said NOT FOR USE ON OVEN. I still used it for the oven drawer, which does not get hot on our stove.

I have seen specifically marketed oven locks. My mom just bought one at Wal-mart, but I haven't installed it yet b/c it's not a problem for us (yet). ;)

You are hilarious! Though, I admit that I've giggled a bit too when I've outsmarted my toddlers :)

I'm so glad the dowels worked out. I wish I would have known about your bookcase solution... I packed all of my books up long ago. Maybe I'll bring them back out and give it a try.

Sometimes I feel that reveling in the failures of my own children makes me a heartless witch...but I've thought it over and have decided that it simply means I have managed to maintain a sense of humor. It's been nearly a week and everytime they go for the closet door I still chuckle a little 'Gotcha!' to myself. :p

    Good luck with the books.
