I'm now 37 weeks preggers and having trouble sleeping...

... Anyone else bug-eyed long past bedtime these days?

I *want* to sleep. My daytime energy levels are the pits. But I keep waking up!

Now tonight, I'm pacing the floors because I stupidly ate a piece of cake and downed a supersize glass of juice 2 hours before bed. I suspect me and the babes are coasting on the sugar right now.

But generally speaking, how are you other late-pregnancy moms-to-be fairing?

Anyone found a magic sleep solution they'd like to share?

I have had some bad insomnia with this pregnancy. Sometimes I can't go to sleep until 2:30 or 3. Last night I took a couple benedryls and went to sleep at 10:30 but kept waking up, like now its 5:30 here...bleh.
My fiance keeps wanting me to go to bed when he does but that's just impossible. He told me its cause I'm lazy all day! He better watch it, with my temper and crazy hormones I'm doing everything in my power to keep under control...I did ask him when the last time he was pregnant with twins though.

Sometimes drinking a nice mug of chai can make me feel more apt to fall asleep. I've been taking benedryl too but my allergies are killing.

I do remeber my insomnia getting worse as the pregnancy went on with my son. I hope that's not the case here with me but its pretty darn bad already.
    Good luck!

I am having a hard time sleeping at night due to the fact that 1.) I have to pee every 45min. 2.) my pelvis hurts so bad it's hard to get comfortable. 3.) I have been so hot lately. Last night it was 60 some degrees outside and I had to sleep downstairs with the front door open, backdoor open and the windows open just to feel comfortable. My dh had to sleep alone in our bedroom. He was freezing last night with all of the bedroom windows closed. These babies are like little heaters!

Amen, Sisters, I feel your pain! :) Normally I get up about 4 times a night to pee and of course when I switch sides I wake myself up because it's such a production! I get hot, too, plus I ache, and itch really bad! I SOOOO understand! The only thing that's keeping me sane is knowing that this is just getting me prepared for night feedings! At night I take 2 benedryl and 1 or 2 melatonin pills. My dr. actually recommended the melatonin and I think it helps, you may try that! I'm already finding that when I'm tired, no matter what time of day it is, I just sleep, again I guess I am getting ready to be on "baby schedule"!

    Take care girls!!

Oh my.......it just gets worse before it gets better. I have had insomnia since week 26-27. I tried everything known to mankind to help me sleep, after fidgeting in the bed for hours I would finally get a shut eye and then wake up 30 minutes later because I had to pee and never go back to sleep again  . The usual pelvic bone pain, groin pain, not being get comfortable, I gave in and started benadryl but that stopped working around 32 weeks. . After 3 days of not sleeping a wink, I was ready to kill someone :diablo: . Then my doc put me on ambien. I still take some time to fall asleep, but once I sleep its great. I can get up to pee and go back to sleep again. I can get atleast 6-8 hours of good sleep and that is such a blessing. My hubby has been after my life to stop taking it, since its habit forming and I told him to back off before I unleash my hormonal attitude on him. :girl_devil: And yes he, like most men(and women not prego with twins) doesnt get why its so difficult to sleep, if only I have the power to make them feel all the pain for just one night :spiteful:

If it's not getting up to pee, the circus of switching sides or the twins waking up and wiggling around (okay - I admit I don't mind that so much! :D ) it's RESTLESS LEG!!! Ugh! I'm getting SO sensitive to even tiny amounts of sugar (and yet last night, with friends over for dinner, I thought it would be a good idea to have a chocolate brownie and five toasted marshmallows at 10pm for desert ... that was clever!).

I'll definitely ask my Dr about Ambien or melatonin at my next visit, thanks for sharing ... I'm at the point where I don't look forward going to bed any more, even though I'm so tired, which sucks. I used to LOVE going to bed - now it's just a restless, twitchy chore!!

Good luck ladies; here's hoping for sweet dreams!

    Awww ladies! I feel you!

For me, its the getting up to pee and the HEARTBURN. I swear, if the old wiofes tale is right, my girls are coming out looking like sasquatch, with all this heartburn! Then when I finally get comfy and ready to fall asleep, hubby starts snoring!!! GRRRRRRRRRR

I feel pain all night long!! My pelvis, my inner thighs, heartburn, just achey all over!! It has gotten so bad that I have to use my husband as a hold-on so I can turn sides in bed! Oh and peeing like crazy all hours of the night!! I thank God that I only have at the most 1 more week left!

I feel for all you ladies!!! I will say it does prepare you in the long run for getting up at night for feedings (although, nothing TOTALLY prepares you - sometimes they DON"T go back to sleep :nea: ) I adapted much easier than my DH because I was used to getting up every 45 min to pee, roll over, be miserable, etc. The hip pain was the worst for me. And I am LMAO at the quote "rolling over is a production" Quite true.....

The only advice I have is that even when your darling babies are here....you will miss being pg. I didn't believe it, but I do!

HANG IN THERE LADIES and GOOD LUCK!!!

I'm laughing because all this is so true... and wanting to cry for the same reason!

I feel like my pelvis is separating every time I try to roll over or get up to pee, and have a vulvar varicosity that makes lifting my left leg very painful (whether getting up from bed, getting into/out of a car, climbing stairs- at least our house is one level!) My DP (partner) is so good about helping me get up and back into bed. :) Last night, for the first time, she had to get up and walk around to my side to help me turn over and stand up. Whenever I come back to bed, she always holds the sheet up and drops it over me, but never remembers that she helps me! Don't know what I'd do without her... :D

I usually sleep no more than an hour or two at a time, and usually get up by 5am to snooze in the recliner when I just can't stand it anymore. Both babies are head down now, and sometimes I swear both heads are wedged in my pelvis when I get up.

So close- I just remember why I'm going through this, and that I want them in there as long as possible! Well, at least another 1 1/2 weeks ;)

Love all the comments, this is such a great resource!

The last couple weeks I've been having sleeping issues too. <_< A lot of tossing and turning. Just this morning DH woke up, and since I was laying in bed awake (for some stupid reason I couldn't sleep), I laid my hand on his arm and he turned to me and said "Don't you ever sleep?! You're always awake now when I wake up." :p I've always been the queen of sleeping so this is very out of the norm for me. I love sleep and normally have no problems with it pre-preg.

I am still early yet so I have a long sleepless and uncomfortable road to go!

I second the pp, I'm also early in my pregnany, and I'm already having those problems. I salute all of you of have made it through to the last few weeks!! I never understood restless legs prev, but beginning last week or so, I started having them, and boy, aren't they irritating!!

My poor hubby have to cuddle up under the blankets while I sleep without any cos i'm constantly feeling hot and flustered!! In my country, we had to switch on the air-conditioning to 18 - 20deg C everynight to keep me cool - and hubby freezing!! hahahaha... :rotflmbo:

I'm only 12 weeks preg and can not sleep! It's crazyness. I thought I was suppose to be exhausted. Atleast be able to sleep this early on. I wake up so often to use the restroom...atleast 4 times, on a good night. Then I have crazy dreams through out the night that keep me awake. Is any one else this early along experiencing this? I don't seem to be too tired in the day which is odd. But I certainly don't get more then a couple hours at a time...totaling prob 5 hours all night. Weird?

Hmmm, Heartburn, peeing, hips, back, breathing, yup I don't sleep. I spend most the night going from the toilet to the couch to the bed and any mix of those.

What works for me- melatonin (small dose), hot showers, stretching, cut out afternoon naps, and a glass of milk in evenings

Okay, I think I read all of the pp and not one person mentioned Tylenol PM. My Doctor told me I could take it as often as necessary. While I didnt take it regularly, towards the end I did take it enough to feel like a decent human being and not a zombie! Have you tried that?

I have no trouble falling asleep at bedtime, but I can't stay asleep for more than 2 hours at a time. There are no comfortable positions to be in and if there is even a drop of pee in my bladder, I'm in agony.

I am 35 weeks pregnant with twins and I can say that the sleepless nights are adding up and up! All the above is true..pelvic pain when I get out of bed especially..trouble turning over(major production), bathroom, just uncomfortable period..Not to mention the fact that I have a horrible cold right now so add a sore throat into the mix! Hence the reason it is almost 4 in the morning and I am writing this. Benadryl helped me early on but I just took two the other night and it didn't even make me tired. Tried Ambien and that seemed to help much more. DOn't know if I was so exhausted from the nights before or if it truly was the ambien..Actually I had to take it for my previous two pregnancies and it worked out great. Take a warm shower or warm bath. The worst thing to do is sit in bed and dread the fact that you are not sleeping. You will go mad. Grab a cozy blanket and watch tv , read, get on the computer...It will be fine..Just breathe..

Ditto tylenol pm, LIFESAVER for me! It takes about an hour to work, so I'll often take it and then take a warm bath and read a book. By then I'm ready to crash, and am out in minutes. I can still wake enough to deal with my other kids, and get up to pee, but I can get back to sleep much faster and sleep deeper. The ONLY drawback, I have to make sure I get about 10 hours of sleep to get it all out of my system. Fortunatley my hubby works second shift, so he gets up with our son for school in the morning, and then with our dd when she wakes up and lets me sleep off the tylenol.

I use it usually at least once a week on the weekend to get a great night's sleep. But as it's getting harder to sleep I may start using it a bit more often!

For some reason napping on the couch works better than sleeping at night, bed isnt comfy anymore, cant lay flat, couch easier to get out of, too bad the freaking dog has to lay on me on the couch though! When I do sleep in bed im up about 5 times a night tossing and aching, heating pad helps back but not enough to sleep.I look at it as training for when the babies get here!
