Are you charged twice for ultrasounds?

I have both an internal and an external u/s at every visit, and we're billed for two of each at every visit. Is that (being billed for two separate external and internal u/s's when you have twins) common?

I guess charging twice for externals makes sense (though I'm surprised it's fully twice as much considering the u/s tech said they only allow as much time for a twin u/s as for a singleton u/s) since they have two different babies to look at. And twice for internals makes sense I guess if you are looking at each baby that way. But at the last few appointments, as far as I can tell *all* she's done in the internal is check out my cervix. And as far as I know, I only have one of those! So I'm just wondering if I should say something or if this is normal. It just doesn't seem right to be billed double for that when it takes 2-3 minutes total, and like I said, she hasn't been looking at the babies. If you're wondering, we do have insurance but have a very high deductible that we're currently paying toward. Either way, I wouldn't want anyone, even if it is my ins co, to be billed unfairly.)

 

I definitely got charged twice for the external ultrasounds - but I only got charged once for the internal (cervix check) ultrasounds. Since there are 2 babies, I expected to be charged for 2 u/s - but there is only 1 cervix - so it seems pretty ridiculous that you'd get charged twice for a cervix check!! <_< I'd definitely ask someone about it.

 

I'm only billed one copay per visit. So, when I go for a ultrasound I pay my one copay. I'm not sure how they bill my insurance company. When I was having cervical length checks done, they didn't even bill me for an office visit.

 

I was charged for 2 external us and one internal at every visit. I would ask about 2 internal.

 

I was surprised at first too, but it does make sense. They are actually measuring 2 babies. You'll get charged twice for everything after their out too!!

 

U/s were charged double because like pp said, they have to measure 2 babies and basically spend almost 2 times the time on a twin mommy. And indeed it never stops!

 

But just to clarify: Were you charged twice for the internal (cervix check) ultrasound, or just for the external?
Cos like I said in my OP, I understand charging for two external when they are measuring two babies, but I'm not sure why I'd get charged twice for the internal, when they are just measuring my one cervix.

 

I was always charged twice from my Peri, but only charged once by my OB.

 

When I go four my regular u/s every four weeks I believe I am charged twice since it takes up two appt. times looking at my babies, usually and hr long sometimes longer. I haven't been given an internal u/s since 12 weeks and then only one baby was seen. I have also heard that with twins u are charged for two delieveries.

I'm charged twice for every u/s. The second is usually a little cheaper but not by much. I think it's a rip off, especially since all I hear from singleton moms is how long all their u/s takes and mine for two babies takes way less time, even my 'big' u/s (which for some reason my 'second gestation' cost more on that one)

 

I got charged twice for everything. I had a health savings account, so after I reached a 1500 dollar deductible, i didn't have to pay anything. but definitely was charged twice for every ultrasound.

 

I got charged twice for internals at first (they never did both at one visit) and then twice for externals after 12 weeks. They measured my cervix externally after that point and would only do an internal if it looked like there might be an issue.
