Are they twins?

My mom, who lives 600 miles away and doesn't often see the boys frequently hears about me complain about how long it can take to do simple errands with the boys because of the number of people stopping to look and ask questions. She is always placating and telling me that they are just curious, and I should be nice, etc., etc., etc. So it was hilariously funny when she was here a while back and had the same experience.

Let me paint the scene for you…
The boys were in the side by side double stroller, wearing matching outfits. My mother the patron saint of patience – not - was pushing the stroller. The first time a stranger stopped her and asked her if they were twins she smiled and said “Yes.” The second time she was asked if they were twins she responded “No, I just like to dress them alike.” And my all time favorite… The third time she was asked if they were twins she replied “Yes. But they have different mothers.” When asked about it later she said she considered the “they have different fathers route”, but the different mothers was sure to stump them and leave them speechless. And she was right. :)

haha! My mom, on the other hand, seems to like the attention. We went grocery shopping for the first time together with the girls yesterday, and she kept wanting to push the stroller. While I am looking at produce, she stands there smiling, looking around, to see if anyone is looking! If they are...she says something silly like "double you pleasure double your fun". I dont know why it frustrates me so much....

eta: my mom proceeds to offer information about the girls to anyone that will listen....its cute that she's a proud grandma, but sheesh....

  4. I love your mom's responses! My FIL loved the attention. Last summer he was pushing the double stroller in our town and every time he saw anyone looking at them (they were 3 months at the time), he would drive it right over and ask "would you like to meet my grandsons?". :) I guess if you can't beat em - enjoy it!

My moms the same way. she loves answering the questions (sometimes she gives out to much info...) and the attention. she will start to "out do" other moms though. Like if they say they have three, she'll answer well she has 5 and so on. i just have to ignore her and be greatful I don't have to answer the questions

My mom is the same way. I have an argument at least monthly about the stupid things people say to me. She doesn't understand how annoying it is. I tell her she better leave all those twin moms alone in NC! (Sorry if she's gotten you already!)

That's what is really odd - my mom loves the attention and always want to drive the stroller, she just gets annoyed when people ask if they are twins. When they say something like "Oh, how cute! Look at the twins" - she will talk to them for 10 minutes. It drives me a little crazy, too. Though nothing compares to when she calls them "her babies" or when people assume she is their mom, and she doesn't correct them. One of my new neighbors actually asked me one day if I was the Nanny because she had been over admiring the kids one afternoon when my mom was keeping them.

Now that's my Grandmother. She takes pictures everywhere and always insists on showing them to everyone. In a way it's nice, but I can only imagine being on the other end of it. It drives my grandfather crazy and he is always regaling me with stories of how she held up the pharmacy line while she was showing the pharmacist the new pictures (keep in mind it is a relatively small town and she knows everyone, and everyone knows I have twins which is pretty rare there.)

I bet your mom understands now. My older ds would love her answers. He was 16 yrs when they were born. We woiuld be out with babies. Some ppl would ask him if they were his or sre they twins. Sometimes he would say this one is my son and that one is my sis. They were born 1 min apart.

Even tho they are b/g ppl still asked are they identical. Drove him nutz. He would say ya till you get yo the diaper area.

Your mom is funny. Way to go keep ppl guessing
