Are they too young to STTN?

I'm a bit of a schedule person and have been following one with the boys. We have always woken them up in the middle of the night (3am) to feed, but they never wake themselves up... so this weekend we decided to see how long they'd go on their own. The first night they did 6 hours from the start of one feed to the start of the next, and 7 hours the next 2 nights. I feed them 7 times during the day and have clustered/dream fed at night so they haven't actually lost the 3am feed, just moved it. I don't even know if this will last but if it does, are they too young?? Their weight gain has been great so far. I know I can't complain. I was quite amazed. Thoughts?

How old are they. MY boys were 4 weeks for Nathaniel and 9 weeks for William for SSTN.

It really does depend on the baby. They are old enough to SSTN. If you want to see if they can, drop the dream feed.

if they aren't preemies, i think it sounds great! :good: the best person to check with though is your doc - if there's a reason they still need those extra calories, they'll be the best person to let you know. if they don't need them, enjoy your sleep. :lazy: :D

Mine were 7wks and were preemies born at 34wks. We asked the Ped at the 8wk checkup if it was Ok and he said yes:) They were not consistant but were sleeping 10-7 about 3-4x a week. We went with it and by 2.5 months neither woke up at all and havent really since then:)

I agree check with pedi. It is definitely possible, but I would want to make sure it is okay. We had tinies and there is no way if they did STTN at that age would I have let them...some would say I was crazy...heh heh. The point is moot anyway.

I agree if they're growing well, enjoy your sleep! Mine started at about 10 weeks, but be warned that their habits sometimes revert when teething hits and it's tough to get that sleep ripped away from you. Maybe you'll be lucky though!

They've given us 6 hours the last few nights. We're thinking now of feeding them at 9pm then letting them sleep until 3am, then back to every 3 hours at 6am. Alternatively we could do the 9pm, 12am and let them go until 6am (DH can help at 6am which is why that's our current wakeup time). Not sure which is best. Thankful for a 6 hour stretch though.
