Are some babyfood jars okay to give ONCE in awhile?

Anthony HATES vegetables. He'll tolerate a few spoonfuls (which is better than nothing) & then gives me this horrid look on his face and starts spitting it out! I try to hide them in foods like mac&cheese, but if he tastes it, it's a wrap. Is it okay once in a blue moon to give him baby food jars of such since he oddly enjoys those? I don't want him to NEVER eat vegetables, but I know how important it is for him to get some..

I did with my girls until 15 months. The only veggie they would eat was peas, so I supplemented with baby food veggies with some meals.

i'm pretty sure there is NOTHING evil about baby food jars, esp. in moderation.

of course homemade is better, no chemical weird stuff, etc. but it's MADE for babies, and if he likes it, bring it on!!

You can definitely supplement his veggie intake with the baby food. My nephew was still eating them at 18 months because he didn't like the not smushy veggies.

Of course. Do whatever works! Just keep offering vegetables the "normal" way, and eventually they will probably like some of them.

Also check out The Sneaky Chef and Deceptively Delicious for creative ways to hide veggies in foods.

We still occasionally give the girls baby food fruits because the LOVE the Earths Best Chunky Harvest Fruit one (and it is easy when we are out & about to bring & give to them).
If they love it then there is no harm!! I just keep trying on a regular basis when I find they don't like something, eventually they will come around ;)

Oh I wish mine still tolerated baby food! We have some jars we'll probably never use... They refuse them now. We manage to sneak in veggies in veggies pancakes and veggies burgers, and sometimes covered in melted cheese, but that's it...

Mine still LOVE sweet potatoe baby food, and really whats the difference between that and say soup or apple sauce? It is full of goodness so I let them have it :pardon: But they also eat "real" veggies

Jars are really mostly water and veggies, so I really wouldn't worry about it.

my girls are gonna be 18 months soon, and i still give them the jar veggies!!! i'm having a tough time getting them to try new veggies, and they just LOVE the gerber spring vegetable, so i give them that pretty often. (they DO love everything spinach, like me, but that's about it lol).

I still give my boys their veggies that way...they won't eat "real" veggies so this is the only way to get them in.

And to make you feel better....my neighbour has 6 year old twin boys. They HATE veggies but will still eat baby food veggies so she still gives them to them. They even use them as a dip for their chicken nuggets!

We still do some veggies like squash (because I don't like it and don't know how to cook it :)) and green beans since they quit eating the whole ones. I also make sweet potatoes which ends up like baby food. DS1 only finally ate regular fruit for the first time tonight - he's been getting baby food fruit every night with dinner. I see nothing wrong with them getting baby food.

I still give baby food veggies and I see no harm in it. If we didn't, the only veggies they would eat would be green beans and peas! If they'll eat it from the jar, I look at as baby food veggies are better then no veggies at all.

Thanks for asking this! John won't eat vegetables at all on his own, but he used to love the jars. I'll have to get some jars and see if he'll take them again, just to get some veggies in him. Will, on the other hand, is my little trash compactor...he'll eat anything you put in front of him!

I gave my two baby food vegetables until almost 18 months! I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

My boys are 18 months and there are many days that I don't think they ate well enough. So at dinner (about 1-2x's a week), I give them something to eat with their forks and feed them Stage 3 meat/veggie mixes. They just share one jar, but at least I know they are getting some protein! I think Jake is going to be a vegetarian. He loves cucumbers, green peppers and broccoli!

mine are about to be two, and we still give them jarred veggies. B will eat normal ones, but J won't, and WILL eat the jarred kind. So if that's how he'll eat them, great! I have no problem with it!

Funny you should post this today. I just went out and bought fruit baby food for my kids last night. They only seem to eat applesauce and sometimes bananas and are having trouble pooping lately, so I figured I would get fruit in them somehow. I tried the smoothie idea - no luck. DS wouldn't tolerate the tiny, tiny pieces of strawberry that he found in the smoothie and kept spiting it out. DD did a bit better, but it was by no means a hit.

So we'll try baby food so that they get some fruit in them. I am still going to offer cut up fruit and applesause, but in the meantime, we can keep things moving with some jarred pears and peaches!

We make smoothies with spinach (frozen and thawed) mangos (frozen and thawed) and pears with the juice from the can (organic, in unsweetened juice). We blend it all up with a little yogurt or soy and they devour it. Now, I'll say my two do love veggies so maybe that's why, but my sisters son (22 months) HATES them and gets his greens in this smoothie and will eat sweet potato fries.

Same here! We give either jarred squash or sweet potatoes pretty much every day. They will eat whole green beans (although Sophie eats them with her fingers and Avery wants them on a spoon) and they like soft carrots. Peas are an issue though. They won't eat them in any form.

Like Krysti said earlier, I don't see the difference between that and apple sauce, which they also get frequently.
