Are my twins behind

My daughters are 8 months old and have not even attempted to sit up yet. They are starting to be more mobile, but it's just scooting, and rolling to get from one place to another (it's soooo cute), I know they are getting closer to crawling. I don't compare them to my other two children and how they progressed because every baby is different. I'm not really worried, I'm just wondering when others' twins started crawling and when they sat up alone. Does it sound like they are within the norm? :babyflips: :babyflips:

    Thanks in advance. ;)

My dd can sit now, started at about 7 months getting good but now she's very good, just loses her balance backwards sometimes. She isn't crawling just rolling all over the place.

My ds can't sit yet, he flops all over the place, but he's an army crawling fiend! I've had to block off my front entryway, and I am going to buy gates for my kitchen and into my dining room this weekend....currently I have 2 pack n play's stacked up blocking my kitchen, and my ottoman and the two exersaucers blocking my dining room off! Otherwise he's into everything!

My bigger guy is sitting up but not really great and my little guy is not sitting up on his own at all yet. We see PT and OT once a week and have since they were three months old. I would ask your pedi about it. If they were prem they may still be catching up. My PT told me that they like to see them sitting between 6-7months corrected age but every babe is different. hope this is somewhat helpfull.

I could have posted this same post. My twins are 8mos and Rhys is not sitting up on his own for more than 30secs on his own and while he is rolling/army crawling everywhere this not sitting thing is bothering me too. My other boy, Owen will sit for several minutes but 'forgets' and flops backward or forward. I am still not comfortable leaving them sitting without me close by. I called the advice nurse yesterday because it was really bothering me, she said that yes they should be sitting up but because they are moving/rolling not to worry about it too much just yet. She gave us the option to follow up with our pedi but I haven't decided what to do yet. My pedi is supposed to call us tomorrow and I guess we'll go from there. The boys also seem to be not as verbal as my daughter was at this age - just more things to worry about *sigh*

I would probably bring it up at your next ped visit just to get some reassurance, but they are not outside the range of what's considered a normal age for sitting. Most developmental charts show the "normal" age for sitting to be somewhere between 4 and 9 months and that doesn't take into account any adjustments for prematurity (I don't know how early your babies were born?). Anyway, I would try not to worry too much, sitting is probably just around the corner. They are probably just too busy learning to move around so they can get into things!

    Were they early?

Mine sat at the end of 7 months and crawled at 9. There is a huge degree of "normal" for any milestone. I would just discuss with your Ped at their 9 month WBV.

Mine sat between 6-7 months, DD crawled by 8 months and DS did not crawl until 10.5 months. I agree that if you are concerned it is worth bringing up the next time you see your pedi.

DS will sit up on his own for a few minutes but he has the tendency instead of rolling sideways to lay down, throwing himself backwards. I always put a pillow behind him for this very reason.

DD will only do it if I'm on the floor right behind her, and I sit her upright, hold her there for a few seconds, then let go.. and even then its only for a couple of seconds that she'll sit up.. and most of the time she uses her hands to do so. (Like a tripod.)

They both roll around the floor from one end of the room to the other, so I'm not so worried about that.. Katelyn is putting herself up on her hands and knees and rocking back and forth.. so she will probably crawl before she can sit up. ROFL!

Emma sat first, at 5 months, and then crawled, around 7 months. Jake crawled around 7 months, and didn't sit well until around 9 months. Like PP suggested, I would mention it at your 9 month checkup just to be sure, but I think it sounds like they are doing great!

Sorry, I forgot to say they were born at 36 weeks and 3 days. Baily can sit up for a short time on her own, but she too will throw herself backwards and sometimes she will roll to her side. She seems to be a bit ahead of her sister, she's always been the bigger one. Ally had the cord wrapped around her neck 2 times at birth (c-section), the doctors said it didn't cause her any medical issues. She also had a two vessel cord, but I wouldn't think that would cause her any delays. I think it's what caused the weight difference. :babyflips: :babyflips:

Thanks for the advice and sharing your little ones' progress. :)

My DD's weren't sitting up really at their 9 month appt and our ped wasn't too concerned. Now Ellie can sit up for a long time and Dani is still not very good, but is getting better. They were born at 37 weeks and are going to be 10 months old on the 3rd. Ellie is crawling really well and Dani is getting better in that department too.
