Are my babies the only ones who do this?

Every time I put a spoonful of the pureed solids in Sophie's mouth, she immediately puts either her fingers or her bib in her mouth. Now Livie has picked up on it too. It doesn't concern me but I don't remember Vivi ever doing anything like that and was curious if anyone else's babies do that. And I know they aren't trying to tell me that they are done because they still yell at me when I walk away with the empty bowl.

Yup my little Liara does this, it can be frustrating at times. She now even takes her food out, looks at it and then puts it back in! Makes for some very messy eating and she was my neat eater :( - no quick and easy magic tips I'm afraid, in the beginning I used to hold her hand while I fed her ( a bit tricky when you have two to feed) and then as she started to understand, I gently touch her arm and say "fingers out of mouth please" and she smiles at me drops her hand, and then we do it again and again - oh well, we have made some progress, I guess.

Now we are also going though the cheeky phase of pulling their bibs off and giggling... Luckily the weather is warming up - I take their tops off to eat dinner.

We just started my single daughter on solids and she does this. I thought that, because she is still learning how to work her tongue, she sucks on her fingers and bib (a motion she can already do) to help get the food down her throat. Your daughters are a bit older and if they were fine feeders before and just starting to do this, than that just shot my theory down!!!

    This ^^

my LOs were really messy, then got neater, then got messy again.
About that time i started giving them mostly finger foods (which at first was messy, but not as messy as smearing purees all over their faces) ;)
Interestingly, a couple of days of finger food and they were all about eating off the spoon again. Now i only offer spooned food about once a day and always in combination with finger foods. they can keep the spoon and suck on it or i will feed them.. they decide.
For my LOs I think it was frustration with not being more independent. Even with their bottles they were holding mostly by themselves and stopped when THEY wanted.

I think this is probably it. I think Sophie just realized that it helps her with eating and Livie's copying Sophie. I'm guessing the reason my ODD didn't do it was because she was well over 6 months before I even gave her rice cereal. Thanks everyone!
