Are heating pads a danger to the fetuses?

I had posted a thread a week ago about my horrible sciatic nerve pain. Alot of you wonderful mommies and expectant mommies recommended using a heating pad. I must say, it is helping tremendously...in another thread about someone having pain I passed along the advice, but someone else after me mentioned the heating pad is a danger to the fetuses...has anyone else heard of this?? It is causing me to worry.

My OB recommended it, but to use it on low. I'm glad it helped!

 

I use heating pad for backache and aching legs, was told as long as the application isn't directly on the tummy, it is alright to use. Heating pad/bags are the best friend of pregnant women!!

 

I used one while on bedrest in the hospital, but was afraid of what it might do to the babies, so I kept it on a really low setting. The doctors seemed fine with it, though.

 

I also used one on a low setting for my back/legs, just never on my stomach area.
I don't think my back would have made it without my trusty heating pad!!!

 

Like pps...as long as it's on low and on your back you and baby should be fine. It goes along with the other restrictions of raising your body temperature (like not using hot tubs or super hot baths, showers, etc).

 

All doctors have something different to say mine says no baths no heating pads, but he says no on almost everything LOL
