Are all pre-fold diapers the same?

Hi there. I'd like to use cloth diapers for our newborn. We used cloth diapers through a service when our boys were tiny and then tried all-in-ones for a while, but found them leaky. Eventually we moved to disposables full time. With the new baby, I'd like to use pre-folds with covers. Is there are particularly good brand of pre-folds? How about covers? Do you like Bummis? Some other kind? Thanks!

I didn't research much of anything before we started a year ago... I went with BumGenius, the one-sized pocket diaper. They are pricey... $17? each... but we don't have to buy any different sizes and have been using them for 10+ months now.

    Good luck in your search.

Ditto - love3 my BG3.0s! If you go for prefolds, don't try the Gerber ones that they sell at BRU. They are way too thin! I have some chinese prefolds and some hemp prefolds that work well. If you can deal with the cost, I HIGHLY recommend the one size bum genius pockets, though. They keep the babies dry and comfortable and the fabric doesn't stain.

I've tried almost everything and we use the BG 3.0 Organic All-in-ones. They're great! For quite awhile, we used prefolds... until the boys got too squirmy.

For prefolds, I suggest googling Little Lions Prefolds. They usually have good prices and their prefolds are really high quality. A good home-based business that I feel good about supporting-- excellent customer service!

Green Mountain Diapers also has quality prefolds. Theirs are cut to custom sizes, which is great for making them easier to put on.

For covers, I really liked Bummis for daytime but found that Sugar Peas fleece covers were best for containing night time pees.

I assume you know about Snappi fasteners, as well. They are a great alternative to pins!

One thing about prefolds that you may or may not know: they need to be washed & dried a lot before they will be optimally absorbent. It's recommended to wash/dry/wash/dry about 5-10 times before you ever use them, to make sure they are as absorbent as necessary.

Good luck & congrats on the new baby!!

I really like Indian unbleached prefolds 4x8x4 as they are super thick and plush. We use them with bummis covers and I dont even use the snappi! In fact I fold my prefolds in 3rds the wrong direction (horizontal not vertical) and then lay them in the bummis wraps. I have mobile toddlers and they work just fine!

As for other diapers my personal preference is the sposoeasy AIO (www.bluepenguin.biz) or the Growing Greens OS (also requires a bummis cover or other) and are sold by green mountain diapers.

Be sure to check out Diaperswappers.com for good deals!!!

That's how I fold my diapers too! I read that it was the best way to do it for girls, but found it works best for my boy as well. I use chinese unbleached prefolds 4+8+4 with thirsties covers. I got them at nickisdiapers.com

I use cloth for my twins, mostly prefolds right now. Little Lions and Green Mountain Diapers both have good quality prefolds, I have some from both sites. They are comparable in quality, and I do both the trfolding method and also pinning. A dozen prefolds are not much more than one BG3.0. For covers, Prowraps are not expensive and have a cut out for the cord, so they are good to start with, esp. since you know they will be outgrown in sort order. I really like the Thirsties covers, and Bummis super whisper wraps are good at this stage too. DiaperSwaapers is a great place to read, learn and ask questions.
