My girls are down to three 8 oz. bottles per day. I was splitting up bottle #3 in two feedings toward the end of the day but now that they are eating more solids, they weren't interested in those last few ounces before bed so I just give them the whole 8 oz. at once.

    This is the current schedule:
    5:30 - wake
    6:30 - get up, 8 oz. bottle
    7:15 - cereal and fruit
    9:00 - nap
    12:00 - 8 oz. bottle
12:30 - usually fruit and veggie (but we have started trying lots of new finger foods)
    1:00 - nap
    4:00 - bottle
    5:30 - 2-3 jars chicken and apples
    6:30 - bed

My question is that the late afternoon is getting harder. I am wondering if I should throw a snack in there. I have tried breaking up the last bottle again and they just have no interest.

If anyone out there has/had 9 mo. olds taking three bottles, any advice? We do have a pedi appt. on 6/4 so I will also ask him.

Are your babies continuing to gain weight?

    Michelle,

I think it's fine that they are only getting 3 bottles. My ped told me at that age the minimum amount of formula is 16 oz, so they are fine in that respect. We dropped to 3 at 10 months, but I think we could have done it a little sooner. I would try adding a snack and see if it gets better. How are they doing on sippies?

I think I should have mentioned that although they are getting three bottles, it's the same amount of formula. They used to get 7-7-7-3 and now I do 8-8-8. They are gaining weight for sure. I don't know their exact weights right now, we'll have to see at their appt. on 6/4. Sippies are just fun right now. They will sip on them, but only every so often.

Something is definitely off though. For the past several days they have been horrible in the afternoons. They are happy for five minutes, then crying for 15. Then happy for 10 and crying for 5. This is just so unlike them. Emma has always been fussy but Lauren has always been so easy and they are both CRYING. It's gettting to the point I feel like I am losing my mind. I just don't think our current schedule is working for them although I don't know how to adjust it.

I'm also wondering if the heat is a factor. HELP! :(

Do you think it could be teething?

My girls were only taking 3 bottles at 9 month. We had pretty much the same schedule except we did a meal around 4 and a bottle before bed at 6. I would definitely try a snack and see how it goes. Good luck

    Becky,
I am not convinced it would be teething. I thought of it, but then dismissed it. Lauren cut #4 last week and it was about 2 days after that that she started this new attitude, as did Emma. That is why I'm thinking it's something else. Everything is running through my head - air conditioning, the heat, waking up earlier, naps not as long as normal. We had such a great schedule going for a while. This is just such a bummer!

You know Trish, I like your idea of bottle before bed! Maybe I will try and swap those, as well as add a snack and see if that helps.

    Hey Michelle,

How's it goin'? My guess is you're hitting the "we're doing lots of new developmental stuff now" and it's disrupting our sleep patterns thang.

Happened to all of us in playgroup around the same time. mostly with naps, but I had to come up with entirely new way to put the boys down in the last 1.5 months. Been crazy.

An earlier bedtime may work for a while, too... since they do have so much going on. and don't worry, an earlier bedtime does not make them wake up earlier in my experience.

    Cheers

    HI!
I think around 8 1/2 months we went to 3 -8oz. bottles- and your schedule seems fine- expecially if they are growing well.
It is normal to have meltdowns at the bewitching hour...
Our schedule is similar but we have a later nap schedule and bedtime. Either you can try a little snack when they start getting fussy before dinner or push their naps a bit later....
    best of luck
    Lanie

    Well well well...

I received my usual newsletter from Parethood.com this morning and this was one thing it said:

"Don't be surprised if your growing baby, nearly a toddler by now, cries a little more than he has for several months. Crying fluctuates during the first year, research reveals, peaking at 6 to 8 weeks, and again at 9 months. Like almost every developmental event, it's only temporary and will soon give way to another stage of growth."

Imagine that!! I guess my girls are right on target!!
