    Good Morning!

I had an emergency csection with my DS due to pre-e. After the csection, my entire lower body was completely bloated (much much worse than with pre-e) so much so that I could barely bend my legs. The nurses said this was due to the fluids given during surgery. Did everyone experience this or is this due to having pre-e and a csection? I found it so uncomfortable that I just want to have the right expectations for this csection with my twins.

    Thanks!

I've had 2 c sections and never experienced that kind of swelling. I did swell a bit because of all the fluids but never to that extent. It sounds like your swelling was probably a combination of both the pre e and the c section. Good luck this time around!

I had a ton of swelling after the delivery of my twins and my doctor explained that it was also from the large amount of fluids that were given to me during the labor and c-section. It is very normal to have swelling and it will all go away within the first week post partum.

I did not, but it is not unheard of after any major surgery.

I normally have very low BP, and during pregnancy it was always very low too (I was on hospital bedrest and had it measured 4 times a day, everyday). I never swelled with pregnancy at all. But after my c-section I swelled way up and my BP shot up. To the extent that they had me come up to L&D each day (when I was in visiting my twins in the NICU) to have it checked. The swelling took about a week to go away, and my BP went back down to low normal when the swelling went away.

I didn't notice any extra swelling with the C-Section. However, I was so swollen by the end that it took a full week for everything to go down. It was SO nice to have ankles again! :woohoo: And be able to wear shoes... ahh. Recovery from the C-Section is SOOOO much better than the pregnancy :silly:

    Good luck!

Oh yes - I had an emergency c with my first and had terrible swelling, but it only lasted a couple of days. I felt like I was walking on elephant legs! I think the pre-eclampsia may make it worse (not sure - didn't have it).

My guess is that the bloating during your pregnancy contributed to more bloating after. I did not have pre-e, but I did have really bad bloating all through my pregnancy, starting at like 15 weeks. By the end, my legs and ankles were just grotesque, and then it actually got worse after delivery for a couple weeks before it finally went down. I think that post-delivery bloat is normal, but it becomes really hard to deal with when it's already on top of pregnancy bloat.

I had pre-e and a c-section and yes, I had terrible swelling everywhere. My stomach and feet were especially bad. It all kind of magically went away about a week after delivery.

I had Pre-E and a c/s with my twins, and I do know I was fluid overloaded, which took about a week for it to go down.
