anyone using a baby sling?

Just wondering if any of you ladies have found a sling helpful. I have a Baby Bjorn so can carry one baby but was contemplating a sling. I thought it might be helpful in carrying both babies upstairs- one is sling, one in arms?? Also thought I may be able to breastfeed in it once the babies are a bit older. I have a three year old so would love to have free hands every once is a while to play with her.

    Thanks

I use one--I don't know if I'd be coordinated enough to carry two babies upstairs though--I don't feel comfortable going entirely "handsfree" with the sling, but I use it and then use one hand to support the head of the baby I'm carrying.

Maybe when they are more coordinated and I don't have to worry about supporting heads...

I use the maya adjustable pouch sling. I love it bc it is easy to put on and just plop them in it. I wore DD to the doc yesterday and carried DS in his car seat. Very doable now. When they were super small, they didn't wear as well. I can put dd in the sling and pick up ds, but it is awkward and I wouldn't be confident walking upstairs. This may sound weird, but I think you could put them in a big laundry basket with a pillow in the bottom to carry them both up at once. :icon_biggrin: Mine are bigger now and I could still do that with them now.

Using the front carriers around the house might be ok for some, but I find it difficult to put on and get them into.

I have a Mei Tai which works great to carry one baby and have my hands free for typing on the computer, doing some household cleaning, etc. I can carry the second one in my arms for very short periods of time but it is not comfortable. The sling is also really good at soothing a fussy baby. They just settle right down once tucked in tight.

I'm not a real fan of my hotsling. It scrunches them up too much and I worry that it causes some breathing obstruction.

I use a ring sling (homemade), but usually not around the house -- when I go out to a bookstore or the mall for a "quick" trip that I know what I'm buying and just in and out or something like that. I usually wear one daughter and put the other in a single umbrella stroller. Mine are too big for me to be carrying two at once - when they were smaller, I would just go up and down the stairs twice, I'm not coordinated enough to carry both up and down the stairs, even with the sling :)

I love my Ergo, especially now that one kiddo has outgrown the infant car seat. Both at home and out to school, grocery shopping, playing, etc I almost always have someone on my back.

Unfortunately all the slings I tried have really hurt my back, but I have been using a Moby wrap since my girls were 2 weeks old. It is basically a long piece of stretchy fabric that you can use to carry the baby several different ways. The wrap chills them right out when they are fussy- I don't know how we would have survived without it! It is great for carrying a baby with both hands free, and I have often carried one baby in the moby and the other in my arms.

Right now I use 2 maya wraps, one over each shoulder (they're only 6 weeks old). I used these with my older ones and loved them. Also, a friend tried to sell me on a Moby wrap, which looks pretty good too.
