I was wondering if I should register for a diaper genie or any of those diaper pails, that seal in the diapers? Both my sisters with 4 kids between them didn't use them and just wrapped everything in grocery sacks and threw out, but I will have more diapers than them. Also, I was concerned about diapers sitting in the babies room getting older and older. Where if I put them in the garbage they will go out about every other day. Any thoughts?

I had the diaper champ with my dd and we got rid of it rather quickly- it got really smelly and since we empty our regular trash every day it worked out just fine. The really stinky diapers got double bagged and tossed in. I don't miss having it, either. Good luck!

we got one and never once used it. you will go thru so many diapers it was easier for us to just take out the trash more often. seemed just like one extra thing we would need to deal with.

I have a diaper champ & still use it til this day, but I don't really recommend it unless you don't mind your windows being open all day just to air the horrid smell out.

I plan on using the original diaper genie. I found it at a garage sale for $1, and they still sell the original bags for it. I bought about 3 refill packs... if it doesn't work I have no qualms about getting rid of it. We didn't have one with my daughter, but hubby insisted that since we'll have double the smelly diapers to get one... so we'll see how it works.

We have two diaper genies (one for upstairs and one for downstairs) and are pretty happy with them. We took some yankee candle car gels and taped them to bottom of the genie and we don't smell it. Good luck!

I have a diaper champ and I LOVE IT. We use the scented trash bags in it and empty it once a week. We don't have a problem with stinkiness. Although one time when a REALLY stinky diaper got put in about two days b4 it was time to empty, it was fine until emptying day when it did stink up the room a little bit. But that is not the norm.

I had a diaper genie for my older DD's and although it worked well it was a pain to get set up, took me a bit to figure it out, and you had to buy the specific refill containers. Quite a pain compared to the diaper champ that you can just use regular trash bags with.

I had a diaper champ with my son and I loved it. I thought it contained the smell very well, and living in Texas it is alot better than taking them out in the heat until trash day.

This is what we do. But because our diapers are bigger now, we empty it every other day. Also we stick some really strong scented candles in the bottom and lysol it about once a month.

We have the diaper champ as well and are very happy with it (a friend gave it to us, we hadn't thought about what we would do with the diapers!). We needed something better than regular trash since (TMI warning) we have a dog who is very smart, loves to eat poop, and can open regular flip top trash cans (the kind that are foot operated). It does a pretty good job of containing the poop smell, but we also empty it about every other day. I also like that I can use regular kitchen sized trash bags and don't need to buy special bags for it.

We have a Diaper Genie II and love it! We had the diaper champ for a while, but the smell was so gross that we went back to the Genie. Sure, you have to buy the refills, but I totally think it's worth it ... just me 2 cents.

We had one for out oldest DD and I didn't like it much then we stopped using it. We never used one with the twins. We just bought these diaper sacks from TRU and used those. :good:

We had one, used a week, and never used it again. For us it was just easier to use a trash can with smell good trash bags.

We used a smaller trash can with a lid and the deodorizing trash bags. Worked great for us and it cost about $10.

I think it's easier to just stick the garbage can on the back porch and put the diapers out each time. We had a diaper genie and it would get filled in a day, with twins. Once we zoomed through a pkg of bags, we just never used it again.

We had a diaper genie is our DS and i got sick of spending all the $ on the refills, but loved the idea and used it for the first couple months with our DD and then just used the regular trash. I'm registered for the first years diaper pail, hoping for the best of both worlds, we'll see how it works.

We have 2 Diaper Genies II & I  them! I keep one in the girls room & one downstairs. Mine has never gotten smelly - but I do origami the diapers up with the dirty wipes IN the diaper after changing them & reseal them w/ the velcro before putting in the diaper genie. Nothing icky touches the diaper genie ever! That is the key!

We used a Diaper Champ and it was OK, but in hindsight I would have just gone with a small trash can and emptied it more often. That's what we switched to when our twins were about 2.5 and I wished we had switched earlier. The Champ does hold a lot more, which is sort of nice, but it also holds the smell.

Flushing solid poops down the toilet is also a good idea that I wish I had thought of sooner.

We have a diaper genie and have used it for 20 months with NO COMPLAINTS! For poopy diapers, we use poopy bags from Walmart and throw those in the trash almost immediately! I've really enjoyed using the genie and plan on using it for the twins too.... my 2 cents!

We use a regular trash can with a flip lid. You will change it so often, it won't have time to stink!

I used the diaper genie with my first, HATED it. The diaper champ with the next three and thought it was OK. Now I just put stinky ones in walmart bags and throw them all in the kitchen trash. It goes out every day anyway.
