Hello everyone!!!ITs so nice to have an outlet for the million questions I have regarding our twins due this August. I hope to get to know you all better through the next few months!!!
My question deals with hunger. I feel like I am hungry ALL THE TIME!!! It's not a good hunger, its the keep the nausea at bay kind of hunger. It's out of control! We spent so much on groceries last week and I am already almost through the cupboards!!! I am drinking lots of water, etc. The weird thing is that I haven't gained any weight. The only thing I can think of that might have affected it is that we spent a week in Breckenridge, CO which made me really sick most of the time. It could be possible that I lost some during the week and am now back to the weight I was when I first got pregnant. But it seems with as much as I have been eating I would have surpassed that by a mile. Any ideas why??? Also, any tips on getting full??? Thanks so much!!!!

I ate a lot and was often hungry. I just think that your body is working so hard that it needs fuel to keep going!!! And the heathier you eat, the more bang you will get for your buck. That was hard though for me when all I wanted to eat was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a tall glass of cold milk!!!

I go through those stages too. Mine comes and goes, usually in 2-3 week intervals.

So no one thinks its a big deal that I haven't gained weight? I've heard that I have to gain 24 lbs by 24 weeks? Is that true? THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ANSWERS!!!!

I wasn't gaining at first and my doctor was not concerned since I am overweight. 2 weeks ago I lost 2 lbs but made up for it the next week. My doctor says my weight gain is good and feels it is all baby. I'm really glad because then that's less I have to get off when I have them. I'm really going to start dieting after they are born.

I only gained about 5lbs up until about 21 weeks, then I started packing it on, gained 47 total. Try Ensure or Boost High Protein shakes.

When I went through that stage of eat all the time or throw up, I liked oatmeal in the morning. It is cheap, healthy, nice and filling. It was also blander. I think pbj's with milk are great, too. I like them on wheat bread with simply fruit by smuckers (I like blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry). I think it is a LITTLE healthier than regular jelly because it is sweetened with fruit and fruit juice instead of corn syrup. Anyway, that period passed and now I pretty much socially eat with my husband and child instead of eat because I want to or feel the need to.

Hi! Congratulations and welcome to Twinstuff!

Sorry I can't help with the tips on getting full but I did want to say that weight gain isn't everything. The growth of the babies is what is important. Unless you are having appointments where no growth is being recognized in the babies then I wouldn't put alot of emphasis on weight gain right now. Eat what you can, when you can, as healthy as possible, take your vitamin and drink lots of water and let the weight fall where it may.

When are you due in August? I am due Aug 2nd.

I am still hungry. For the past week, I have actually slept through the night rather then getting up to eat at 3 am. But I am still starving throughout the day. I am still down 2 lbs from my originial weight, though I am finally starting to go up.

Just wanting you to know there is someone else in the same ballpark.

Don't worry you'll gain plenty of weight by the end of your pregnancy.I was very thin prior to this pregnancy and spent a lot of time in my bikini at the lake on our boat.I would shock a few people at this point. I think I'm going to skip that for a season. It's hard not to get big with twins. I was constantly hungry the first 16 weeks and ate every couple of hours or I would dry heave. My OB said it was my bodies way of maintaining a good blood sugar level because it takes more to support twins. Eat as much as you want and don't feel guilty!
Melanie- 30 weeks and 4 days with b/g twins.

I didn't start gaining weight until about 16 weeks or so. My docs said as long as I was taking my vitamins and eating healthy, don't worry about it (course, I still worried). But, I'll be 24 weeks soon and I've gained about 20 pounds. So -- approx. 20 pounds in 8 weeks; and really I haven't changed my eating much between the first 16 weeks and now (minus my three weeks of gallbladder trouble). I also find that a Carnation Instant Breakfast in the morning, after my bowel of cereal for breakfast, about 9 am is a good thing, keeps me full, then some fruit, then it's lunch time! [IMG]

    Hello and welcome,

I am 32 weeks pregnant and I used to have that ravenous feeling mainly in the mornings. It's like I could eat a house and still want more. I started drinking the Boost with protien before I got out of bed and then went to make breakfast. That's what helped me the most.

Now I don't get those feelings of being ravenous anymore but I can tell when the twins are having a growth spurt, because instead of my normal eating- every three hours, like clockwork, I'll get hungry sooner. I have the gestational diabetes so finding snacks that are sugar free is difficult.

I did eat a lot and didn't gain much weight either. Your body is trying to keep up with those growing babies inside you. While I did try to eat healthy during my pregnancy....pizza was a staple in my diet [IMG].

I am 18 weeks preg with B/G twins and I have yet to gain any weight. I have actually lost 7 lbs since I got pregnant (I started off at 129lbs and i'm 5'10). My OB says it's nothing to worry about yet because the babies are both growing fine! I don't know, I thought it was wierd too but I trust my OB will tell me if there is something i should truly be worried about!!!

I ditto the oatmeal thing... I ate it everynight to keep me through until morning!! I ate like 2 grown men!! You sound pretty normal to me.. but listen to your body if you are hungry eat and dont worry about it! Try lots of protein... yogurt, cheese and eggs were my choices. I have also heard alot about the protein shakes but did not try them. Good luck ... hope you feel better!

Congrats on your twin pregnancy, and Ditto on what everyone says. Doesn't sound like you need to worry about it. If you're not used to high altitude, it's probably waht made you sick in colorado. The most important thing is to stay really hydrated - and listen to your body.

Obviously the more healthy food you eat the better for you and your babies, but - especially if you're nauseous, if you can eat anything and keep it down that's great! Don't worry, you WILL pack on the pounds.

Would like to hear your reaction to the protein shakes: i finally tried one the other day and vomited it up IMMEDIATELY - and i have hardly puked in about 7 weeks!

Good luck and keep hanging out with this great community.
