My babies will be 17 months on the 29th and they still want 2 naps. They take 2, 1.5hr naps. It's crazy. They also sleep from 7:30-6:30-7am. I'm wondering if I should start forcing 1 nap or let them go. Any thoughts?

My two are a bit younger (15mths) but still on 2 naps most days. They did great with one nap the other day, but it was a busy day, so I think that's why. The two since then, they've needed two naps. Sometimes mine will only sleep for 45 minutes to an hour at each nap, so I'd rather they go one long one, but they just can't seem to stay up long enough.

I'd let them go. If they are still taking 1.5hr naps each time, I think they still need the sleep.

Mine are 14.5 months and still need 2 naps. It seems like it is hit or miss, though. Some days they sleep 1.5 hours 2xday - other times they fight one of the naps and never end up going to sleep.

I wouldn't mess with their 2 naps! Just enjoy the fact that they like their sleep - and enjoy your "free" time. Soon enough they'll decide they don't need 2 naps any more. :)

Yup, still on 2 naps here (if they take them!).
Their morning nap is always consistent (1 hour, sometimes if I am luck a little more than that) but lately the afternoon one has been rough.
I am not ready to go to 1 nap, and I don't think they are either. Unless it is a 3 hour one! But they can't seem to make it to mid-morning/early afternoon yet.

R&R are younger but still on two naps-
However, I cant remember when Sophie went to one nap but when she did it became one three hour nap! I like the idea of that with these two! Someday....

We are still on 2 naps, I don't think ours are ready for one nap yet and neither am I!

We are on two naps a day and I don't see it changing any time soon. I want to go to one nap but at the same time I don't. We could get to a lot more play dates if they didn't take the morning nap, but shoot when they go to one in the afternoon when will I shower? When will I mop? When will I get any phone calls made? LOL

during the week at daycare they are on one nap a day. From 10-30 - 11-30 it gets rough and the only thing that keeps them up is constant activity. At home on the weekends I do the 2 naps. It is just too hard to keep them up until 11:30.

Mine are 16 months and sleep 12 hours at night, as well as 2 two hour naps during the day. It's crazy but they're thriving.

glad to see I'm not the only one! I just feel restricted when I'm home with them. I always have to rush back for 2nd nap.

Can anyone chime in on when you knew it was time to change to one nap?

Still on two naps here. When they were 13 months I decided it was time to go to one nap. That was possibly the worse weekend ever. Babies were extra tired/crabby, etc. I went back to 2 naps right away.

This is exactly the same situation we are in. My girls will be 15 months on Monday (13 months adjusted though).

Mine are 16 months and I've noticed that sometimes the morning nap is getting longer for one girl or the other which then seems to shorten up the second nap. Since mommy is pg with number #3 we are not ready to give up two naps but yeah these past few weeks one or the other cuts either the AM or PM nap short or they extend it. Now I've really kept them consistent with their naps and only on rare occasions like a breakfast out on the weekend or a good playgroup have I made any changes..... So I know it is them that are changing and not because of any inconsistencies with me.

I have noticed that the one twin is less likely to have a meltdown by 5 pm -- the other girl is so easy going she rarely complains. If they miss the PM nap, then I move their bedtime up to 5:30 instead of 6:30 and they still wake up at the same time.

They have always been power sleepers with 2.5 hrs in the AM (8:30- 10:30 or 11) and 2 in the PM (1-3) then bedtime 6:30 -- 6 AM. Lately I've noticed they are waking up closer to 7 AM. Since we don't have a time-change here in Australia (in this state) it has thrown things off a bit.

sorry for the messy answer but yeah it is weird when you can count on them like clockwork for MONTHS and only now they are starting to change things up for me.

My oldest DD stopped taking 2 naps around 19 months. With the twins I stopped them at 17 months since their big sister was starting school again soon and it was getting too hard to squeeze 2 naps into the school day. But they still would have taken 2 naps longer if I had let them.

We moved to one nap around 15ish months but only because I couldn't get them to lay down for a second nap. They would always take a good morning nap but then play through their afternoon nap and be crabby by 5 p.m. So I just started pushing their morning nap back a little each day so it was more centralized and now its after lunch.

At first I was sad to be on one nap a day b/c it was hard figruing out when to shower/clean/etc. but now that I'm into a new routine its really nice and I like the flexibility of pushing their nap earlier or later depending on what we are doing that day.

I say if they go down for 2 naps without a fight and sleep well at nightime then why mess with it. If its not broke don't fix it!!

For us the kids have always let us know. When they were ready to drop a nap they would pretty consistently refuse to go down for it. We could put them in their cribs and they would just talk or play, or take super short naps. If we skipped the nap they were more or less fine (though we did have to move other naps around to get a little better balance) otherwise they would be up for far too long at a stretch, and not long enough at other times.

I would let them take the two naps and can I just say that I'm jealous?! I wish mine would do that.

I knew when it was time to go to one nap b/c they straight up refused to take two! If I try to put them down twice a day they just play and then it turns to whining. They will only sleep one time each day.

Mine did this too. They would go down for what was supposed to be the first nap and sleep a long time. Then, they would not go down for a second nap.

the average age to go down to one nap is 18 months (as per the many sleep books that i have read). i wouldn't force them to change if they don't seem ready!
