    Hi there,
Beofre I found out that we were having twins I had fully intended to try having a vaginal birth after having had a c-section with my first. Is there anyone out there who has had or is planning a vaginal birth after having a c-section? My doctor seemed pretty set on the fact that we would have to have a c-section with twins since I had a previous c-section.... It is still pretty eraly I thought to make that kind of prediction I am only 15 weeks 5 days.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated! Thanks!

i was thinking of trying for a vbac when i thought i was pregnant with one - when we found out there were 2, the docs took that option off the table for me - they think the risks are too high

Thanks, I was wondering what others were hearing from thier doctors. I was kind of hoping for a non sergical birth since my daughter's birth was pretty traumatic, but hey, at least this time I can be prepared for a c-section!

You might want to check this out:

There are all kinds of studies showing that twin VBAC is a safe alternative to repeat c-section (with risks being the same as with a singleton VBAC).

So, basically you shouldn't be told that it's not an option. The research says otherwise. No one can force you to have surgery, although you may need to shop around for a more open-minded doc.

Oh, and don't be induced if you decide to VBAC ;)

I was induced with DS2 and had a V-BAC. My doctor is the one who gave me the option, I had no idea I'd even be allowed to. I didn't have any problems at all. He was 9lbs 7oz and came out in three pushes. I think my labor was right around 7 hours...so, no complaints from me.

I know that the reason I was able to was because it had been almost 7 years since my c-section. And, it was an emergency situation, so there was no pushing or laboring for hours. My doctor is going to allow me to have another vaginal birth, unless there is no other choice, obviously.

A lot of hospitals won't let you. It's just "policy." So, that may be why your doctor was set on a c-section from the get-go?

Thanks, I am definately hoping that things will go well and they will let me have a vaginal birth. I guess if I have to have a c-section it might be a little less traumatic this time around.?

I've had several friends who have had more than one c-section and they say the second time is a lot easier recovery wise. I think the worst thing about it the first time is just not knowing. The second time, you know what to expect and can anticipate what you'll need to do before and after.

Personally (and this is just MY opinion), I'd push as hard as possible for a V-BAC. I don't think it's really that big of a deal to at least let you TRY. I've become sorta anti-c-section since DS2 was born, mostly because I see it as a money making opportunity for hospitals/doctors sometimes. I understand it's necessary at times, but sometimes it's just not.

Anyway...good luck! It was really a wonderful experience for me and to be honest, I'm quite proud of myself for going through with it AND delivering a pretty good sized kiddo! :)

I'm glad everything turned out well for you. Women who are induced for their VBAC run a 5-fold increase of uterine rupture, so it's not recommended by most midwives and doctors.

just to add- i had a traumatic birth experience with my ds and had a c-section - i was open minded as were my docs about trying a vbac, but once the risks of a vbac carrying twins were explained to me - the risks didnt seem worth it and my docs agreed - i am also hoping a scheduled c-section is much more managable for me emotionally than the emergency c!
