if so, what brand are you going with? i am going to do bum genius diapers because they fit from 8-35 pounds. i don't want to have to keep buying new ones every time they grow.
people think i am crazy, yet i am dead set on doing this.

God Bless you! I could never handle that... But my mom did it with us twins... they just didn't have very good paper diapers back then.... I have a friend who has done it with all her singletons...

I DO! :) I am just doing prefolds and covers, though. I do have a few bumgenius and am going to get a few more AIOs or pockets just to have around, but there really are so many options eh? HAHA! I found some good sites when I was researching (greenmountaindiapers.com and diaperpin.com are a couple) that you could check out. Also, if you post this in parents club or 1st year or even 1-5 you might get some more responses! Good luck, and GOOD JOB! WE CAN DO THIS! :) Everyone thinks I am crazy too, and I am only having one, lol. :D

We've been using cloth since the beginning. We used the disposables the hospital gave us just because DH didn't want to waste them and we fought diaper rash constantly. As soon as I switched to the cloth diapers full-time, our diaper rash issues abruptly stopped. I also believe they work better at containing poop; especially the watery breastmilk poop.

We're using prefolds and covers so when they switched from infant to premium diapers and small to medium covers, I had the option of quitting without being out anything. I opted to continue with cloth diapering.

I also had a lot of people tell me I was nuts. None of them had actually tried cloth diapering, though. Ask people who have done it and you'll get an overwhelmingly positive response.

I am planning on using cloth too. We will use a diaper service, as there is one in our city that picks up the dirties and delivers new clean ones every week. The diaper service is all prefolds - so we'll be using prefolds and covers. I know I can buy the covers from the diaper service, but I probably should look around and see if there are better places to get them. I figure we'll also have some disposables on hand to use when away from home, but at home we're definitely going to try cloth. Glad to see that a few others are too!

I thought about it briefly. My mom did for my younger brother. I remember being 10 and having to swish the poop off the diaper in the toilet. I don't have fond memories of that at all. If you can give me sound reasons to discuss with dh, I might consider it.

we cloth diapered!!! And we loved every minute of it. We started with Happy Heinys and prefolds and then sort of ended up with an odd assortment!

My unsolicited 2 cents would be not to make a final decision until you've tried a few. Most diaper shops offer sampler packs and you may find that a diaper isn't as ideal on the bum as it was on line!

    We've loved our diapering experience!

Diapers have come a LOOOONG way since then. There are still the chinese prefolds, but there are so many options besides those. But even those have changed as far as covers (you don't have to use the Gerber plastic pants)

I have Fuzzi Bunz which are pockets. There are also All in Ones, I forget what other kind there are. The size med will last you from when they are a few months old to potty trained (they're 15-30 lbs). There are also one size as the other ladies talked about-BumGenius. For me, the main factor is $$. We were spending around $50 a month. That's $600/year. I imagine it'll be about 3 years until they're potty trained which will be $1800. The cloth diapers will be a lot less than that. Plus you can reuse them with other children.

Since they are not solely on solids, there is no swishing in the toilet. Another thing when they start getting solid poops is getting a handheld shower thingy. You can get them at several cloth diaper online stores.

One website that you may want to check out is diaperpin.com

the shower thing is neat, but we don't have one...and we have NEVER swished! YUCK!

We dump the poo & throw it in the pail. Then we flip the pail into the washer, rinse on cold, wash on hot, and toss in the dryer!

We cloth diapered for the first six or seven months with my daughter, using mostly pocket diapers (Happy Heiny's) with hemp inserts. I used a dry pail, and I did have one of the shower things to rinse poop into the toilet.

I really, really wanted to like cloth diapering -- I like that it's environmentally friendly, and I like the idea of fleece against a baby's skin, instead of the gel and chemicals in a disposable diaper.

But, honestly, I didn't like it. First, my daughter had very loose hips as a baby, and used to lie with her feet up by her head -- she would pee in this position, and the diapers would leak from the waist all the time. (She's also very thin-waisted, so that didn't help.)

Then, for some reason the *smell* would seep out and get into her clothing. No idea why.

Finally, she was a copious pooper, LOL. She pooped many, many times a day until she turned 1. And, she didn't have solid poops until she was older than 2, so I was spraying a LOT of poopy diapers in the toilet. It wasn't as easy as just dumping the poop in there and moving on....

I hated the frequent washing, too. I'm the type of person that only does laundry once every two weeks, so doing a load of diapers every day, then hanging them to dry, just wasn't that fun. (And even had I bought more, I found it too gross to let them sit dirty for more than a day.)

So, this time with twins, we'll be going right to disposables.....I'm not thrilled about it, because like I said, I *wanted* to like cloth -- I really like the idea -- but with two, I just don't think I can deal with all the drawbacks while I'm already stressed and short on time....

Cost is also not a huge factor for us -- if it were, I think I might make the effort!

I wanted to add -- I hope my post wasn't discouraging. I have many friends who cloth diapered and loved it....I encourage you to read some of the diapering sites to get some good tips!

With the diaper service, you don't have to rinse or even dump the poop (they ask that you dump 'bigger' stuff, but it's not required). They make it all pretty easy - they give you the diaper pail too, and you just set the bag of dirties on your porch every week, and they leave a bag of clean ones.

I'm really interested in trying cloth diapering, for all the reasons why it's so much better for the babies, less smelly, etc., but I am NOT interested in washing them myself. That just seems like too much extra work with two babies.

With the service I won't realize any cost savings over disposables - I think it works out to be about the same cost. But it's not more expensive than disposables, and I get diapers delivered right to my door. Unfortunately there aren't very many diaper services left, so I'm pretty luck that we have one here. I will sign up for the service about a month before we think we'll deliver, they will deliver the 'starter kit' that includes the first set of diapers, the pail, etc. And then you call them within a few days of when you come home with the babies, to start your weekly delivery.

I too am thinking of using cloth diapers...i am checking into a diaper service, but i also have 4dozen fitted cloth diapers that were given to me. I know that 4 dozen is not very many, but it is a start. I am hoping that i enjoy using cloth diapers and if not then i can switch to disposable. i think it is worth the try though!

I used prefolds with covers AND flushable liners. The liners were brought to me from a friend in England. They were so great, you just fold it over the diaper then when it's soiled, unfold it and flush it.
I must say I didn't start using cloth until they were about 3 months. The first three weeks my girls were too small for the diapers I had (which were hand-me-downs) then when I tried them in their fourth week, they just peed too much, I felt like I was constantly changing them. But from 3 months on we did cloth. I did use disposibles on outings. But I felt good about all the diapers I kept out of the landfill by using cloth at home.
I had a wet pail, a lidded bucket with Vanish disolved in the water and just tossed the diapers in there, Each morning I did a load in the washer and because of 1)the liners and 2) the soak in the vanish, I never had any diapers not come out crystel clean. I hung them in the sun to dry and used a 1/4 cup of vinager in the wash to disinfect.

The diaper service says that for a newborn you need about 70 diapers a week - averaging about 10 a day. If that helps some of you who are purchasing, to figure out how many you need.

I think 4 dozen sounds like a really good number to start with, then you just need to wash them about every 4 days.

Here is the website for the diaper service that we will use - http://www.seattlediaper.com/ - they have lots of info on there about cloth diapering.

I plan on using cloth diapers too. People also think I am crazy for wanting to attempt it with twins!! But I just do NOT want to spend the money on a ton of disposables and I can't stand the thought of having so many diapers in the landfills. I think I am going to try Fuzzi Bunz. My sister used them and absolutely loved them. Good luck!
