Just curious... I have two embryos frozen and now that mine are one, I am getting excited about an FET in the next year.

If yes, how many did you transfer? I wonder how many people with a current set of twins, "risk" another set by transferring more than one?

I hope this thread gets busy! We are going to the RE on Wednesday to find out when we can do our FET!

FWIW: my SIL's sil got pregnant on all 3 of her FET's. None of the fresh IVF's worked for her. She had a singleton and then twins. My sil did an FET back in Feb/March. She was pregnant with twins, but sadly they lost them at 23 weeks.

We have 10 frozen embryos-that were frozen on Day 6! Yikes! I know my RE only wanted to transfer 1 embryo the last IVF, but I wanted, as well as dh, to transfer 2, as this was our FOURTH transfer, and I wasn't taking any chances. And-I'm glad I didn't! As for how many to transfer next time... Well-I'm pretty sure she's going to say one-as well as us. But, if it doesn't work after 2, 3 times, then I would want to be more aggressive, provided we had embryos to work with.

We were lined up to do a FET Late last July- we had 2 frozen. They did not survive the thaw and we had nothing to transfer. Not trying to dampen it all, but we were NOT prepared at all for that scenario, RE only mention it in passing (we had two 6 days- one great condition(same as the twins) and one ok condition).

....and had long discussions on transfering 1 or both ( we had decided on 1 per dr reccomendation), but never on what we would do if we had nothing.

Our RE gave our chance of twins again 25% if both were transfered and less than 1% if 1 was transfered (identicals).

I wish you luck and a 100% thaw rate!

It's a Frozen Embryo Transfer... When we did our 2nd fresh cycle of IVF...We had 17 fertilized...17 made it to day 3...17 made it to day 5(HUGE) and we transfered 2 on day 5. Then they let the others continue to grow-and we froze 10 on day 6. So-all in all-we lost 5. So-my "babies" have been frozen since Feb 07!

KC-you make a valid point. One I even forgot about. Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Are you going to go through IVF again? I know insurance/cost determines that. We go to the RE on Wednesday, so I will be sure to ask about the thawing...

We did a FET and that's what resulted in our twins, although we transferred 3. They were frozen for about 18 months and had no problems with the thawing process. We still have 3 more in storage and haven't decided what to do with those. Good luck to you!

    Meagan,

No we are not doing IVF again- we can not afford it and MI does not have mandated coverage. We were lucky and participated in a 'study' for medications at 1/2 price back when we both were working, we could not (and still can not afford) the $12,000 price tag for IVF/ICSI.

I would ask what type of freezing they did. Ours was the only version available in 2005- with 30-70% thaw rates. Today a lot of clinics use vitrification- or flash freeze. That has a 70-90% thaw rate, much better!!

Good Luck and I hope all goes well!
