I am 15 weeks today (I need to get my ticker set up for the site). Last Monday I went off of baby aspirin as per my RE. Now I am wondering if I should stay on it. I have the heterozygous MTHFR gene. As a result I am on Folgard 2.2RX twice daily and 40mg of Lovenox. Is anyone else in the same boat who can tell me what their dr's protocol was? Thanks!

I am 12w2d pregnant with twins and am on 40mg Lovenox, baby aspirin, and a supplement called Metanx (similar to Folgard). I am compound heterozygous MTHFR. I believe there are differing opinions regarding whether or not to be on both BA and Lovenox. As long as you are on Lovenox I wouldn't worry too much with the BA. Did your doctor give you a reason for discontinuing the BA? The two drugs actually have different blood thinning effects, they work differently, so I'm not certain what the concern is.

    Hope this helps.

I'm 24 weeks pregnant with b/g twins and I have MTHFR. I just found out when I was 14 weeks pregnant. It's a long story but I thought I had antiphospholipid syndrome because my labs came back positive for it. So I was on heparin injections twice a day and baby aspirin. i got a subchorionic bleed and needed to be off heparin. My ob ran a full panel and found that the previous labs from another doctor were incorrect. No APS Syndrome just that I have MTHFR. So I stopped heparin and I now take a baby aspirin and 3mg of folic acid a day. The baby aspirin isn't really necessary but it can help a little with blood flow so I take it.I didn't think you had to be on lovenox unless you are factor 5 leiden positive? Anyway, my pregnancy is going well and I'm not even worried about this anymore. My sister has MTHFR as well and didn't know with her two pregnancies and she wasn't on any extra folic acid.

I have a homozygous mutation of the C677T gene MTHFR and have taken Folgard and B Complex vitamins for this. With my last pregnancy I was on baby aspirin through the whole pregnancy as well- as the pp said it has a different function than the lovenox. I'd stay on it if I were you- can't hurt, might help. I've not been able to take it this pregnancy because I was still nursing my 2 year old but he's stopped now and I think I'll start taking it again. i also am on heparin for an antithrombin III deficiency. There is a whole panel of clotting disorders that could require blood thinners (heparin or lovenox)- have you been tested for all of them? My doctors said they probably wouldn't do the injectable blood thinners for the MTHFR alone, but in conjunction with another issue they would. You might ask them. Good luck!

I tested homozygous for the MTHFR and am on baby aspirin, extra folic acid, and lovenox. I had heard from my hematologist that being heterozygous didn't put you at a higher risk for complications, so I'm a little surprised they have you on the lovenox, especially since they had you stop the aspirin. I'm sure they are just being extra careful, though.

I ended up calling my OB yesterday because I just couldn't stop worrying about this. It turns out that he wants me to STAY on baby aspirin. I was off of it for 6 days--which of course I can't stop thinking about. However, I have an u/s scheduled for Thurs. I'm sure I'll feel better once I see the babies. Thanks for all the responses!!

I'm not sure how much you know about MTHFR, but if you want more information try www.fertilethoughts.com. Go to their Infertility board and there are two boards, Genetic Issues and Immune Issues, that discuss MTHFR. They are very helpful. There are five different mutations and it depends on which one you have as to how potentially dangerous it can be. If you have had previous pregnancy losses and MTHFR then most physicians seem to include a blood thinner and a baby aspirin...or at least that's what I've gathered from my research.
