Anyone not give an afternoon snack?

In an effort to make them less indifferent at dinnertime, I have been slowly scaling back the the boys' afternoon snack (after their nap), and now I'm considering giving them just some juice and maybe one or two crackers, if at all. They are often eating a snack of crackers and juice or milk at 4pm and then eating dinner at 5:30pm, and they just don't seem that hungry at dinner. I feel bad not giving them much of a snack, but I really want to protect dinnertime as much as possible, especially considering they are not great eaters anyway.

Does anyone else not give afternoon snacks?

I am also cutting back the snacks for better meal times! It's helping me a lot!! Sometimes I can't avoid it because of what time they ate last and how long they slept, but it's working the majority of the time!! Good luck!

I do very small snacks if I need too- it all depends on the day and how things are going and if we are eating dinner soon, etc. My girls are underweight so I try to make sure I'm watching closely their "diet" for the day- but they have been eating more at dinner if I steer clear of that later afternoon snack.

We are a no snack household as well. It has made dinner time so much easier. They are eating and when they have food in their mouths they can't fuss as much!

now when we get up we just get so involved in playing that if I don't do snack right away at 3-315 then next thing i know they're whining for something to eat at 430 and maybe we are having dinner at 5-530 at the latest. so then I'm kicking myself.. today's snack was 1 whole banana. some days it's just 2-3 crackers. some days it's just water. it depends sometimes on what they ate for lunch... if they had a big lunch then not a big afternoon snack.... sorry probably not much help here.

Mine are a few months younger than yours, so I don't know if this helps. I try to give an afternoon snack, usually they split a yogurt and have a couple crackers each. But, they still take 2 naps, so they usually don't get a morning snack because of their morning nap. When we switch to one nap, they'll probably get a morning snack but no afternoon one.

Mine really only started having a snack when they started school. At preschool, snacktime is about self-help skills as much as eating, but it does get them in the habit of having a snack every day.

Before school, I never offered a snack.

My boys do not get snacks. They always have their sippy cups available with water in it.

We only have a snack in the am. We give them water (with a splash of juice) when they wake up from their nap around 3:30. They eat lunch at noon and we eat dinner at 5.

It really depends on the day and what they ate already that day. Some days their nap stretches until 4pm, in which case they get water (with a splash of juice), but no snack. If they didn't eat much at lunch and their nap ended at 3, I tend to give them a small snack. They are really into "cooking" in their play kitchen right now, so I can give them a small cup of cheerios or kix and they will play (stir, pour, etc) with them for an hour and only eat a few. DH hates that I let them "play" with food, but they absolutely love to have their snack this way. Since my kids are not great eaters, I've tried to limit snacks, but kind of take it on a day-to-day basis.
