Anyone not get really big and have good-sized babies?

Okay, I have a history of carrying small - with DS1 I was average, but with DS2, my midwife was concerned enough with my small size/weight gain that she sent me for an u/s at 36 weeks to make sure he was growing well. He was - born a couple days early weighing 8lbs 4oz. This time, I'm 31 weeks and have gained maybe 20lbs, and people are constantly commenting on how small my belly is, that there's no way there are twins in there. I am not tall (5'6"), and while I did start this pregnancy about 20lbs overweight, I didn't look it much.

So, with my last u/s at 20 weeks and not having another one for another couple weeks (but definitely feeling these babies constantly moving, so I know they're both there), I'm just hoping I can hear from anyone else who gained relatively little and carried small but had perfectly-healthy full-term babies. Are you out there? [IMG]

I only gained 24 lbs during the whole pregnancy and both babies had a healthy weight of between 5 and 6 lbs at full-term birth, not huge but perfectly ok. I had a huge baby belly though, just belly nowhere else. I am tall and slim and my weight-gain was never an issue for my doctors as long as I was eating healthily, provded I was not losing weight (which I did during the 1st trimester), I just do not gain weight easily.
Try not to worry too much - every pregnancy is different, every body is different and as a general rule the babies take what they need. But do speak to your doctor or midwife if you are concerned and ask them for nutrition advice.

I gained as much weight with my singleton pregnancy as with my twin pregnancy. I remember with the twins people would say to me "oh you're so big, you must be due soon!" and I would say I was having twins and they would say "but you're so small!" Wait, you just said I was big..??! My baby bump turned into a baby mountain the last month or so.

I wouldn't worry as long as the babies are growing like they should. Everyone's different.

Up until now all the little pieces (organs and such) have been developing. Babies really start to put on weight in the last couple of months of pregnancy. I gained 28 lbs, and my babies were 6.4 and 7.2 lbs each at 36 wks, so between them and the placenta's, that was pretty much my whole weight gain.

Try not to worry yet, those babies will probably start beefing up soon!

With my first I only gained about 19-20 lbs and she was 7 lbs 8 oz. I'm currently 32.5 weeks with twins and I think I've only gained about 20 lbs (it's hard to say because I always have such terrible nausea for the first 4 months that I lose weight for a while). I am so sick of hearing "oh you are so small"! Like I'm not trying to gain enough weight. On the other hand, I have my doctor cautioning me to not gain too much weight too quickly. So I personally wouldn't worry about what others say as long as your doctor isn't concerned. And at my last ultrasound (at 24 weeks), the tech commented on how relatively small my belly looked (since the babies were measuring large for their gestational ages). She said that some women just have bellies designed so that the babies find the space they need without sticking way out.

Thanks for the stories, everyone. Like I said, I'm not truly worried at this point, just surprised more than anything as I expected to be massive by now. My OB hasn't been concerned at any of our monthly appointments, so I'm taking my cues from him. Like several of you, I was just so sick for the first four months or so that I lost weight. And then with so many aversions, I haven't really had much of an appetite until the last month, so I suppose these babies had been sucking from my reserves (great - they can have it!) for the first half of this pregnancy. It'll be interesting to see what the final outcome is!

I delivered at 39 weeks (well, 2 days shy) and I gained a total of 30lbs and Libby was 5.14 and Gavin was 6.9. Libby started to lose weight end which caused the inductino, but I think that had they come a little earlier, she would have been bigger.

Most could not tell that I was having twins. I only gained about 20 lbs over all, and until the last month of pregnancy I looked like I was carrying one. I'm fairly tall, however, so that may have a lot to do with it. My girls ended up being almost 6 lbs a piece and they were born at 1 day shy of 36 weeks. Like you, I was very sick the first trimester with both of my pregnancies. With my son, I ended up losing 10 lbs in two weeks, and with my girls (although not as sick), the first four months or so was just hell.

Everyone was surprised I was carrying twins when they saw me. I gained 20lbs with the boys and they were 6lbs 9oz and 5lbs 2oz and were born at 37 weeks.

I gained 14lbs and had my twins at 35w2d. My girl was 5lbs and my boy 5lbs2oz. My belly was pretty big, but nothing else. If your Dr isn't concerned, then I wouldn't be either. I had a totally uneventful pregnancy, no sickness at all...Ate like a pig...They just sucked it all out of me.

I wasn't "small" but definitely not huge considering their sizes. I gained a tiny bit over 40lbs and my twins were 7lbs11oz and 7lbs10oz at 38+2. I was below pre-pregnancy weight 6 weeks later (same weight after 2 weeks, so it was lots of fluid, babies and everything that comes with it).

My first baby was really small (full term, 5lb 2oz) and I gained 25 lbs. The twins were 36 weeks, I gained about 35 lbs, allll belly and they were 4.8 and 5 even. (I think all this info is in my signature lol) I carried big for me, but not big for twins. The last couple of months is when they gain the most weight. Did you read the multiples book by Dr. Barbara Luke? It really gave me a good idea of what to aim for in terms of eating.

I gained 42 pounds total, but I never looked big. People constantly told me that "it doesn't look like I have twins in there". They always measured pretty much average for their gestation. I delivered at 31 weeks, but was on bedrest from 16 weeks, so a very conscious effort was made for me to gain weight early on, which I guess worked since I got to 42 pounds by that point.

I'm only 24 weeks and the babies are a pretty good size. People always tell me I'm small even before they know I'm carrying twins. I've gained about 20 pounds so far but my weight was really low before I got pregnant so if I hadn't I don't know what I'd be running on! I like to think of my bump as small but very dense, like black hole... there's such a lot of heavy stuff in there considering my size!
