Anyone nervous using Pampers or Huggies?

We recently switched doctors for our babies and he pointed out that pampers are quite harmful for babies due to the dioxin chemical found in the diapers. He suggested we switch to cotton, chemical free diapers (e.g. tushies, etc...). I'm looking at seventh generation diapers which are more affordable than the tushies. Is anyone nervous about this potential exposure? I've read a few reports online and Huggies and Pampers were mentioned several times as containing these potentially harmful chemicals.

Also, would like to hear your opinion about seventh generation, for those who have used them. THanks!!!

I've never heard that and have used Pampers in the beginning and now Huggies for over a year now with no problems.

These diapers apparently have dioxins and other harmful chemicals that exceed the WHO and EPA acceptable levels. Here is a link for more information. http://www.healthydiapers.com/hs.html

These chemicals can potentially affect one's hormones and are carcinogenic. From what I've read, there is no compelling evidence of these chemicals seeping through the skin of the baby, even though they come in direct contact with the skin. I guess with no substantial proof, Huggies and Pampers don't feel obligated to make changes. I'm hoping seventh generation diapers are as effective as pampers cruisers.

I've been using Pampers, Huggies and other brands all along. I have heard this before, but I guess it didn't worry me enough to do anything.

We are Pampers users here. I've never heard of this. Should I be concerned?

I've tried them and they fit very well - have stretch tabs on the side. The only issue was DS got this really bad rash between his thighs and my nanny thinks it was from the outside of the diaper rubbing. I'm not convinced, but I did decide to go back to pampers. 7th gen is so expensive!!

Never heard of this & we used Huggies & Pampers with all 5 of our kids with no problems. The hospital nursery uses Pampers too...

use huggies here too - and add me to the never heard that either...

hmmm in reading that link they really don't have any evidence that there is anything harmful about the diapers being against the babies skin, only that TBT is used in the manufacturing...

pampers and huggies are the only ones that don't break my girls out

I have used pampers since the girls were born, mostly b/c they have never had a diaper rash so I trust that they work. I have heard of this before, and did a little digging but I couldnt find any proof of their claims. To me it sounds like they are trying to scare people into buying their own product, JMO.

We always used Huggies and Pampers (and later on Luvs) and never had a problem. I agree with Angie... they could be trying to drum up more business.

We cannot use huggies or pampers because they cause my girls to break out and they would burn horribly bad. We couldn't figure out what was causing the reactions until we switched brands. My husband now refuses to purchase huggies or pampers. The girls rarely have any episodes with burning or breaking out now.

I have only used Pampers since they were born with the exception of a package or 2 of Luvs. We use Huggies Overnites too. No problems here.

Curious as to what brand of diapers you use. Thanks.

I feel the information is compelling enough to warrant further research/investigation. Since our little ones were born, we were hoping to use cloth diapers. For various reasons it didn't happen. I'm hoping the seventh generation brand works well and I didn't find it exceedingly expensive. Per diapers.com....Pampers cruisers = $38.99 for 140 diapers; Seventh generation = $41.99 for 136 diapers.

Stacyann-1: thanks for the input. I appreciate hearing your experience with the seventh gen diapers.

Also, to all, thanks for your input. Our little ones haven't had any real issues with pampers either, nonetheless, I will continue looking into it.

Just so you know, I've read that these chemicals can be found in most pads and tampons, too.

I'm not really too concerned. It seems that scientists change their minds about things causing cancer everyday.

FDA's checked tampons twice, and concluded that they could barely detect any dioxins in them.

Of course, that was 10-20 years ago, and now we seem to be unable to spit without hitting something tainted with lead, so I guess you never know nowadays.

Either way - not really concerned about it. Believe me, out here in hippieville, I figure we would've heard a lot more about it if there was any substance to the claims.

I've used Pampers/Huggies with all 4 boys. I had heard of this before but I put the diapers on their butts, I don't feed them to the kids. As for the little gel crystals irritating their skin, I really try to change the diaper before the gel crystals start popping out...that doesn't usually happen til the diaper is so full it's sagging to their knees.
