18 months is the recommended age, I bought my girls their first portable potty @16 months. They just put toys in it. One of my girls started to show interested at @20 months, and were still working on it. Good luck!

I never bought a potty chair. They got familiar with the toilet because they always were with me (whoever gets a moment's peace? [IMG]) and they let me know when they were ready to use it.

I never had a potty chair either. When it was time, we did get a potty ring, but for the most part I let them tell me. When I tried to force things, all I got were a lot of messes.

We are just now casually doing it, but best wishes to you!! There are cultures that believe you can train a baby! [IMG]

I bought a potty around 16 months and set it up in the first floor bathroom. During the day, they love to join me in the bathroom [IMG], so I figured I'd put it there to see if they would try to imitate me. Until recently, they would close the lid and stand on it, put toys in it, try to close each other's heads in it, etc... but never sit on the seat. A few weeks ago, when I went it to use the bathroom, Natalie came in, lifted the lid and sat on the seat. She was fully clothed, but it was as if she kind of had the idea of what she was supposed to do. Since then, she's been sitting on it before and after her baths (all her doing, I have not put her on it at all). Gabe still barely acknowleges that it's in the room... okay, he knows it's there, it's a good place to hide things... but has no interest in using it as a potty. I'm letting them "tell" me when they are ready. But, I think a good start is making it available to them and letting them get comfortable with having it around.

I don't think it's too early for you to get one, but don't be surprised if they use it for everything except what you bought it for!

We bought the potties when they were around 18 months as well and just put them in the bathroom where they played with them and pretended to use them. Recently, they have used it a couple of times. Danielle has told us she needs to use it and asks for us to undress her. So, I think she is starting to understand the sensation. Rachel isn't quite there yet. But, my ped suggested not rushing and waiting until they were ready...between 2 1/2 and 3. She also suggests waiting until the summer months because it's much easier to train with less clothes on. We will probably get serious with it towards the end of the summer.

We bought potties at 12 months and sit them on it at bath time and when ever they take me to the bath room. They have both gone pee and poop on the potty but I don't force them to set on the potties.

I bought the potty seat for them that fits onto the big potty, so they think they are big boys. I started with them a couple of weeks ago, and they have both already pee pee'd in it once. They are slowly learning.

13 months would have been way to young for mine, they were just learning to walk, let a long pee in the potty, LOL

I'm going to say it may be too early . For my children it would most definitly be too early. But I have heard of a few moms that trained young. The youngest any of miner were trained was at 2.7 years. And it wasn't so much training as she was ready. #1 was 3 and #3 was over 3 1/2 yrs old. My 22 month olds only show interest in watching our family go. My boy twins has hopped onto a regular potty 2x and looked like he was trying but really doesn't have that control yet. You could certainly give it a shot but not expect too much yet. Good luck!
