Anyone have to take amoxicilian while pg

DH found a deer tick on my last night and after calling my peri he prescribed amoxicilan just to be safe b/c obviously getting lyme disease would be BAD.

He assured me that amoxicillan is safe while pg and won't have any negative effects on the fetuses but I'm still really hesititant to take it. It's a class B drug meaning testing in labratory animals haven't showed any negative fetal effects but not enough controlled human studies have been done.

I guess I don't have much of a choice as geting lyme disease would be BAD and I should trust my dr but it just makes me nervous you know...

Anyone have experience taking this drug, am I worrying for no reason?

 

When I was about 13 weeks along, my whole house came down with horrible colds. I'm talking, the scratchy throats, runny noses and coughs that didn't end. I got it really bad and went to see my family doctor. He prescribed me the Amox. if I wasn't feeling better within a week. My OB confirmed that it was okay to take while being pregnant...however, I just fought the cold off which took an additional two weeks...lol..but I just didnt' want to use any antibiotics like that. Not to mention the "other" unpleasant side effect that could come from that.

 

I was on antibiotics, two separate times. I do not recall which ones, but I am pretty sure I was on amox. towards the end of my pregnancy.

I was so hesitant to use any medications while pregnant. Well, by the time I delivered I had been on so many different things (procardia, terbutaline, antibiotics, maalox, pepcid ac, charcoal, colace, percocet, progesterone, (I am sure I am leaving something out)...my point is; it is best to be safe.

 

I'm really surprised they would prescribe anything without any evidence that you have lyme's... can't they do a blood test for that?? usually some red swelling shows up in a good amount of lyme's cases too... last year they thought I might have had it and they did a blood test on me...but maybe you need to wait a certain number of weeks after having the test done... then I thought the usual treatment was long term antibiotics...and I really thought it was usually something stronger than amoxicillan.. but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. I don't know what I would do in your shoes.... I do have to take amoxicilan for my dentist appointments... I've taken it once this pg in the first trimester, and I'll be taking it again in the third trimester for a dental appt. But that's just a one shot deal... I think 4 pills total. And my ob/gyn okayed it, so i wasn't too concerned.

 

I had a severe throat infection about a month ago and had to take amoxicilan. I too was concerned, but I was assured by my doctor and OB that it was fine. It is better for the baby to treat the possible infection rather than not take the drug. Try not to worry too much about it.

 

I have had a constant really nasty sinus infection for about a month and a half now- and have done 2 rounds of z pak and a 14 day round of augmentin (strong amoxicillin) and a 10 day round of it. I have been reassured that it will not hurt the babies, and they have checked out fine so far. I don't think doctors would do something they think would harm the babies- or at least- lets hope not! I have asked 5 different doctors, and they have all reassured me it will be ok.

 

It is fine to take it. I took it in March for strep throat. I also take a topical antibiotic that is for my legs. When I got it, I was going through the fertility treatments so my dermatologist treated me as if I was already pg and gave me a Group B medicine. So Group B's are ok to take.

I've been on it or other things while pregnant, my doctor's always assured me that it was fine.

 

Hmmm, where do I begin: Erthromycin, Macrobid, Tylenol with Codeine, Percocet, Benadryl and I'm sure a few more. All three of my boys are healthy and had no NICU time. I don't think anyone wants to take meds while preggo, but if the dr. prescribes and you trust him hopefully you're safe. Good luck! :hug99:

 

Yes! I took it very early, like 7 weeks(?) for strep throat. No worries!

I am horribly allergic to penecillin, so of course I have not been prescribed amoxicillan. But when I was around 12 weeks pregnant I got a really bad cold/sinus infection and had to be put on antibiotics, a Z pack, and my babies have continued to grow and so far all the tests I've had say they are healthy....

 

I took Amoxicillian my ENTIRE pregnancy (I have Lyme Disease) and no harm came to my babies at all. It is a VERY well studied drug and my pharmasist told me practically nothing prescription is class A for pregnancy....it would not harm the babies at all!

Lyme disease could have far worse effects than the antibiotic. Usually it takes a few weeks/days for Lyme to show up in your system and then your babies may have been exposed longer.

Good Luck! It MAY give you yeast infections though....PM if you have any ?'s

 

I had a sinus infection and took some antibiotics. My babes came out just fine. I wonder if you can use OFF while pregnant....
