Anyone have experience with Choroid Plexus cyst(s)?

Discussion in 'Pregnancy Help' started by scrappinjenofthreeplustwins, Apr 17, 2007.

Baby B has one and I've searched the internet for tons of info, but was curious if anyone here had personal experience with this. TIA. I've learned so much from this forum is such a short time.

My baby B had a small one at 17 weeks. They monitored it and it went away by 27 weeks! They were extra careful to look for other chromosonal 'markers' , but none were found. My Peri said they are more commonly found now than they used to be due to the greater technology we have! Many go away on their own, especially if there is only one and it is not huge.

Today my baby B is a PERFECTLY normal 18 month old. She actually did better post birth than her sister (smaller, but came home first).

That's what my doc said too! They found cpc's on both of my twins at the 17 week Level II appt. By our 21 week appt they were getting smaller and by 26 weeks they were barely seen. Please don't do to much research on it because you will drive yourself crazy, I know I did. :hug99:

My son had one too, they found it at 20 weeks. Since he had no markers for Trisomy, they told me it would go away, and it did! They says its fairly common and that only 1% have chromosomal abnormalities. If your baby is where he/she should be size wise, try not to worry...

  5. These responses were exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. My peri was just so short about it it really concerned me. Baby B has no other markers and this was a level II so that makes me feel better.

I'm so happy to read all of the positive replies. My baby A had one (at 18 wks)and it was gone by the next ultrasound. Now I'm 30 wks. I really think it is more common than they say. My only advice, don't research it-I made myself sick over it for weeks!

I am a NICU nurse and you'd be VERY suprised to know how many babies I have taken care of that we were the ones that found the choroid plexus cyst. We routinely do a head u/s on premies when they are born to check for bleeds. I could honestly say that about 24% of our population have them, and they typically go away before discharge. When I first started I asked our Docs what it was (I learned nothing about this in nursing school.) I mean you hear cyst in the brain and think the worst, we all do. Well basically their answer was... it's nothing. It will go away and doesn't cause problems. The only time it means anything is if the baby is at risk for some genetic anomaly. I understand you being concerned about it, but I have never seen one cause anytype of problem with even the smallest babies. I hope this helps ease your worries. I wonder if it's a normal part of development since they all seem to vanish with age???
