If you can return them, I would. The earliest your kids could use them would be age 3, and by then, something newer and better will be out.

Vsmile's biggest competitor is the Leapster, and my older DD just got one for Christmas -- she absolutely loves it, but she's almost 4. (And, I spent a long time deliberating between the Vsmile and Leapster, and went with the latter.)

I'm surprised someone gave you these for the babies right now?!?!

I agree with Becca. By the time they could use them, there will probably be something new out!

Mine says from 9 to 36 months??? Maybe we're talking about two different things.

Oh, then definitely something different. Vtech makes lots of baby/kid toys, so I'm not sure which one you have, then....look up the reviews on Amazon, and maybe that will help...

You must have gotten the baby V-Smile, which is for babies 9-36months. We have one and our twins have never taken a liking to it at all. I would not keep 2, unless you plan to have 2 t.v.'s to hook them up to. My oldest was 3 when we got ours and he liked it. Not as much as he likes his V-Smile, but he did play it. They have some cute games for babies. Hope that helps some.

I think most people are talking about V-Tech. My girls got V-Smile for their 1st b-day. I didn't try it until they were about 14 months but they really like to watch it. They weren't (and still really aren't) ready to understand that they "keyboard" connects to what is happening on the tv so I have to do most of the stuff for them and they just watch it on the tv. It's really cute though and my girls love it but you DEFFINATELY do NOT need 2 of them. It teaches colors, animals and animal sounds, shapes, and numbers 1-5 and it does it in a very simple slow paced manner that is perfect for babies/toddlers. It has 3 different modes. One mode allows them to just play with the keyboard and press the shapes and hear the name, color and a funny sound for each shape (probably perfect for them right now). Another mode allows them to interact with and control what is happening and "answer" questions using the keyboard and another mode allows them to just watch the different activities. I think it's great and I would recommend keeping one of them.

Personally, I am totally against any video type game for kids of any age, but particularly for those under 6 years old... My sister-in-law gave one of those v-smile (toddler version) things to my daughter for christmas last year... I was so mad!!! I let her use it a few times, the game it came with was pretty hard and although educational still a video game... I think that if you talk to any pediatrician or educator you will find that they have found a link between ADHD and use of video games, computers, and TV at an early age. In fact, my pediatrician has a sign in his office that says: No TV, Video Games, Computer until age 6 and then limit to 1 hour per day... With that said... My 3.5 year old has seen lots of TV in the last 2.5 months with our twins just born and the end of twin pregnancy

Anyway, with regard to the video game... Return them both and let your kids learn through books, toys, intracting with you and the world around them... To much instant gratification leads to poor attention span and a lack of willingness to stick with something to get the rewards.

We have the vsmile baby and DS loves it. DD could care less but DS wants to play with it all the time.

We just got our one year old nephew a LeapBaby which is basically the same thing. I think you will only need one though so return the other.
