I am at the end of my rope with Kevin. He just hardly ever sleeps through the night and recently he has been up twice or three times a night! The other night he even woke his twin brother up from screaming so long and so loud. Obviously I am still practicing CIO with him. He stands up and screams every time I put them both in for naps and for bed at night. He is definitely tired though. After two days of up three times a night, I almost called the local paper to put him in the classifieds. <_< ;)

I am just wondering if anyone else had a problem sleeper and if it ever ended. He does not use pacifiers, they still use bottles twice a day (esp. him). I can't get them off them even though I have been working at it every day. <_<

    Urgh. :umm:

I think you should speak to a sleep specialist. We had a great one who knows twins. Her name is Marsha Pod and you can find her website. She tells you to get all their room organised, black out windows, white noise machine, thermometer, get everything just right so you know there is no reason they are not comfortable. Then get the schedule right. The do crying. She suggested going in every 15 mins but I thought that was too harsh so I got the Ferber book and did it his way. But she had such great advice and ours are sleeping through the night. They were both up every two hours until I fixed everything.

I'll check out her website. It's funny though, I have the white noise machine, I have black out curtains, woobies, stuffed animals, organized and a clean room. I do CIO with 15-20 minutes of crying. He is just one very stubborn baby/toddler.

    Thanks for the advice.

Yes Sarah, my girls both still get up at night. But 3 out of the last 5 nights they have only gotten up at 11 and then sleep through til morning. Maybe there is hope for both of us!

Maybe they are too hot/cold/ I also leave two little bottles of water in their bed for when it's hot. They are all gone by the morning. Forgot to mention that the sleep specialist does it over the phone so you don't have to go anywhere. Not cheap with two but it was worth it when they finally slept.

:hug99: Sarah I hope you get it all figured out soon.

My guys still wake atleast once for something to drink. They drink the whole sippy cup full, so I know they are really thirsty, and then they go right back to sleep.

One of my girls, Melissa, goes through phases like this. Where she wakes up screaming and inconsolable and sometimes wakes Jade. It was bad AGAIN for the months after we gave up the pacifiers. But the last week has been good. The "big beds" seem to have helped in our case. For now... <_<

My girls are almost 3 and still wake up at least one time each during the night. Right now, they are getting up and getting into bed with me.

I was in the same boat until about 2 weeks ago. Lorien, JUST started sleeping through the night. I noticed that it started right at the same time she started trying to walk. I posted maybe a month ago about how exhausted I was because she wasn't sleeping through the night AND she would wake up b/t 5-5:15 EVERY morning and some days she would nap once and others twice. I was going bonkers. In any event, I know how you feel and I am so excited that FINALLY they are BOTH sleeping through the night (so it started at about 14 1/2 months). I hope for your sake (and for theirs) that it happens for you soon. Hang in there, I know it's soooooooooooooooooo tough!

My dd was the same way at that age. It was horrible. Then without any change she just started sleeping through the night around 16 months. We never dd CIO, but we wouldent run in there right away either. We would wait a few minutes before going in to soothe her. I know it's tough, but like one book I read said, kids will sleep through eventually. Good luck in whatever route you choose.

yup.. my daughter has never slept through the night. she is currently co-sleeping. My son does sometimes (started at 14 months), but CIO was involved, and he still isn't consistent. I have to do something about naps.. they are currently not napping at all! and they are exhausted.

    I feel your pain!!!!!!!!!!

My twin girls are 19 months and the other night they slept through from 8-8 and that was the FIRST time in MONTHS AND MONTHS! I could count on two hands how many times they have done it. It's VERY frustrating and trying esp for a Mom who loves her sleep IE- ME! But really I thought we were on a good stretch and then it's always somehting, TEETHING or SICKNESS or TERRORS or SEP ANXI, it's always something. I hope and pray that it ends soon. My husband works nights and we are BOTH sleep deprived beyond belief...he gets woken up by them all the time. If you want to PM feel free.......just want you to know you aren't alone.

PS= I get to go on vacation next week and I am sure that will be SO fun

You're definitely not alone. I'm exhausted. :80: I used to have one good sleeper and one not so good. Lately, they both don't sleep that well. Each getting up 1-3 times a night. I'm really losing my mind. I think part of it is that they were sick a lot since Fall so never really got used to going back to sleep on their own in the middle of the night. Sometimes they are definitely thirsty or hot.

Not that I'm a good reference since my twins don't sleep that well, but... we used CIO when they were younger. When they got older, I couldn't bear hearing the screaming too long, so we used the Sleep Lady's book "Good Night, Sleep Tight." I think they both responded pretty well to that. You might want to try it. It advises resorting to the method in the middle of the night too but I've wimped out on that part; I feel I really need to pick them up most times and figure out if they're ok. Anyway, I think kids are different and if CIO hasn't worked, I would try this method. Some kids respond well to more reassurance than what they get out of straight CIO. :cray:

Hope that helps. I hope we both get more sleep soon!! :lazy:

I am there with Amanda: I have 3 and a half year olds that do not make it through the night. Some nights they do, but most they don't.
Alex wakes after 30 minutes or so from being put down and he comes to chat to us. Then it takes a while and we had nights where he would come down 10 times a night. But from like midnight on, he sleeps.
Ollie on the other hand sleeps alrightuntil 2 or 3, when he wakes up and sometimes needs up to 45 minutes to go back to sleep. They are early risers, Alex at 5, Ollie at half past 5.
To our delight little miss Ella has decided her night time schedule is feeds at 11-1-4-7 so that we can get the absolute minimum sleep!

I hope the sheer volume of replies makes you feel better here. :) Of my two, Lilly sleeps through most nights, Kate wakes up almost every single night and comes to bed with us. She's slept through the night twice in the past month, and of course one of those nights Lilly decided to pick up the slack for her. :p We've decided to just deal with it and wait it out, because she won't do this forever. It kind of sounds like CIO is not working for you, so maybe you'd be better off going with the flow for a while.

Thanks everyone for your replies! It took me a few days to come back here and check since I couldn't get on TS!

The last few nights, it has only been once with him. I have given him a bottle of water and he has gone back to sleep. I just want to see him happy and not freaking out so much (he is such a hyperactive child too). My DH and I are convinced that a lot of it is separation anxiety and him being afraid when he wakes up at night and no one is there. We noticed that going in and him seeing us helps and we just need to calm him down. If my DH goes in and just gives his a blanket he goes back to sleep with no fuss. If I go in he cries so I am using the bottle of water to help calm him down.

So we will see. I hope he does better soon. My eldest still had nightmares at 5 years old and comes into our bed at least 4 times a month. I hate to have another!

Well at least they will all stop sleeping in our bed by the time they go to college! ;)

Jack wakes up 2 - 3 times a night for his dummy. I have started leaving him to find his own dummy but he wont pick it up even if it right under his nose!! I think i may have had about 5 full and uniterrupted nights sleep since i had them. Big :hug99: to you, i know what you are going through. x

Brie sleeps through most nights, Harrison wakes up most nights but has become accustomed to coming into my bed when he wakes...at your kids age...Harry was still having a bottle when he woke, it was a habbit he outgrew, he decided he would much rather come in my bed that have his bottle.

I'm having the same issue here. Waking up once or twice a night crying and also stalling at bedtime ("Need a drink", "Mama kiss again", "Big hug", "Sing mom", "Have to go potty")----- they are playing me big time. I get so frustrated putting them in bed every night that it puts me in a bad mood for the rest of the evening. I'm at the end of my rope. One or the other wakes once or twice a night crying. We go in and just retuck them and they are fine. I don't know what else to do. I refuse to let them come in my bed! I was just talking to DH last night about going the CIO route with them at bedtime b/c they will keep me in their room for 30 min. with demands.

    Crystal

PS... I'm talking about my "older" two. The babies sleep from 7pm-8am. THANK GOD!!!! :)

    Sarah,
I am glad to hear that Kevin slept better the last couple of days. Neither one of mine are sleeping yet, Mattie is worse than Lauren. If DH goes in, then they will usually go on back to sleep, but if they see me, I have to pick them up and cuddle with them before they go out again. :hug99: to you.

    P.S. I missed you!

My oldest who is almost 4 still gets up once or twice a night. He goes to bed around 9pm and is up at 7am. He has always been like this. For him(like his grandmother)I don't think he requires a lot of sleep. Unfortunately, I do.
My twins go down at 730pm and get up around 8am sleeping through the night.
