I am looking to purchase a sling, specifically for the first few months. I anticipate having to hold both babies at once to calm them at times and thought that a sling would make it easier to start. Any suggestions?

Great question...I would love to know too. I didn't have one with my DD, but think with twins it will be really nice to have...especially one that you can nurse with. Hope you get some good recommendations!!

Hi! I recently bought 2 slings, an adjustable pouch sling by Zolo wear and one by Kangaroo Korner I think. The Zolo one is great in terms of style and comfort of the fabric, but sometimes I feel that in the newborn cradle hold, their heads are not so secure. The Kangaroo one is awesome, but I got the fleece which can be a bit warm for baby and me. But I feel like I can jog with them in there...very secure. It's also easier on the back and shoulders than the Zolo. I got my Kangaroo one used from the website for only $30. They are reglar $60 I think. I find both slings really come in handy when we are out and the babies get fussy in their infant seats and want to be snuggled. We can sling them and eat our food (although food often falls on the sling). Just make sure you don't order soup:)

I don't know how crafty you are, but there are a number of instructions on the internet for making your own sling.

I made a pouch sling, from just a couple of dollars worth of light 100% cotton material I found on clearance at Walmart. I posted it on my blog, along with links to some of the instruction sites I found. Here's a link to my blog post that has links to some of the instruction sites, plus a site that shows you how to sling twins. http://timandjo.covblogs.com/archives/020799.html

I'm not a good seamstress, so it took me a few hours the first time, but once I got the hang of it, I made a second one for a friend in just a couple of hours.
I accidentally made my pouch a little short (one of the instructions said to measure from your shoulder to where you place your hand on your hip, but I had trouble finding it under all the babies, LOL!), but I think it would be really nice for a newborn cradle hold. I'm going to try to make a couple more a bit longer. It's nice because you can design your pouch to fit you and your baby however you would like.

Also, sometimes you can find nice pouches/slings/carriers on Ebay, some of handmade them made by SAHMs, and some of them quite reasonably priced.

I have the Baby Bjorn which I had intended to use to carry one while consoling the other - bad idea. Once that baby is strapped in, my arms aren't long enough to do a whole lot with Baby 2. So the BB is pretty useless in my house. I don't know if you were considering carriers other than basic slings, but if so, that's my 2 cents worth.
