Anyone got any tips for transitioning pants sizes?

My little guys are skinny and all torso so they have pretty short legs. They're still wearing 12 month pants but they're starting to get a little high-waterish and a little tight around the middle. Problem is, every pair of 18 month pants I have are HUGE on them. Both the waist and length are just too big. I've resigned myself to the waist being big and just pulling them up all day which I don't love but I can deal with it. BUT -the length! I've tried rolling them up but they never stay then the kids wind up tripping over them. I do sew but seriously, I can't really see hemming all their pants just to rip it all out next month.
    Anybody got any good ideas?

:nea: I have this problem with my son every time he moves up a size. :gah: They are always too long and big in the waist. The waist part is easy to fix because alot of the pants are adjustable but the length thing is annoying. I don't want to shorten them because he will grow into them so I just roll them up. I'm not fond of the look but usually within a couple of months he grows into them.

Dont hem the whole bottom, just put a stitch or 4 in to hold the roll cuff in place :)
Experiment with different brands too - sweats seem to do better when they are in the in-between stages... Winter will be here soon, you can hide the length (or lack thereof) in boots :)

If the pants have an adjustable waistband, you're good there. If not, what I do is make a drawstring. I take an exacto knife, cut two slits in the waistband (kills resale value but it works), then thread a ribbon through one hole(put a safety pin on a ribbon and push through) and out the other. Then I usually tie a bow in the ribbon, you could tie it in a knot though. Alice is all leg though, so her pants are way too big in the waist and too short, Royce OTOH, has a pretty big torso like yours and since it's the summer time, I just let him wear 12-18 month all cotton shorts (the comfy ones, not with pockets or made out of denim or stiff fabric).

ETA: I agree with E&M's mom, roll the cuffs and tack into place with a few stitches. Nothing too fancy.

I vote for putting a couple stitches on the pants to hold the rolls [IMG]

This is my main complaint too. I have a stack of 18 month pants in a drawer that I hope will match the 24 month tops. It seems the pants are always at least 3 to 4 inches too long. If I had one toddler I might hem them, but twins no way.

I just roll their pants up. I know they make fusible tape to hem pants, but I think it's permanent. Maybe double-sided tape?
