Our pedi is about 9 minutes away, which is good. But he is gettign older and his care is getting less & less. :( I have had issues as of late with some of his "non-advice", and lack of doing anything several times with care my son needed (ear issues). I've had a few friends leave the practice just because of him.
So why am I "scared" to tell them I am leaving? I have a few other pedi's that I can try, but I feel guilty, which is CRAZY. The nurse's advice is never that great either. So I guess I am just asking if anyone elses has switched and how did you do it? Did you call to tell them? Or did you just find a new doctor and that new one called the old pedi to get the records?
I feel like such a kid - being nervous. weird. So any adivce would be GREAT. thanks!

We did switch peds and honestly, I never told them lol. I filled out the paperwork at the new ped and they sent for their medical records from the old ped.

That is what I did as well but we switched because we moved not because we are unhappy with the pedi.

We were very unhappy with our pedi when my boys were about 3 months old. The new practice we found is a PERFECT fit for our family and I am sooooo glad we switched. I do, however, wish we had done it sooner, and didn't only because I felt the same as you did-- we have family members who also go to the same pedi and recommended him. I just didn't feel like I had just cause until my 3-month-olds had fevers over 102 after their shots and the office didn't call us back for 2 days (weekend)! They actually never returned our call. When we talked to the doc about it, he never apologized, just got defensive and blamed the other doc in the practice. That confirmed my gut feeling that we needed a change.

Bottom line: go with your gut... don't wait and see if something more serious happens. You know best, mama!

And yes... your new doc can just get the records. I never notified our previous doc, and they never called us or anything.

I, too, switched peds. I left the new office call the old one and if the doctor had called me to ask why I switched, I was ready to tell her!
Good Luck and DON'T feel guilty, you are doing something for the benefit of your children and someone elses feelings should not be taken into consideration!

We've switched a few times due to moves but only once did we switch in town because we didn't like a pedi. The first pedi we were seeing is extremely popular in this large city and we only got in because my cousins also go to him. Needless to say, he was not a good fit for our family. Way too old-fashioned, didn't listen well at all, and huge waiting times. So, we switched. I just had the new pedi call the old pedi's office and transfer the records. I was scared at first but this non-confrontational method worked well for us and now we have a pedi we love. Good luck!

We switched because their pedi was not pro-BF for us as I would have liked her to be. I just went to a new pedi and let them get the records for us. No biggie, like PP stated, go with your gut.

Kathleen, in my mind a pedi is the one person who need to feel absolutely confident in. They are dealing with children who are not yet good enough at expressing themselves, and mommies who are most times unsure and worried, so they need to be knowledgable, compassionate, and right on top of things. I would just go to someone new and as pp mentioned, have them ask for the records. It's a bummer to have to do it, but you need the care YOU are most comfortable with for your kids.
