Anyone else's 1 yr olds NOT on vitamins?

My pedi had said they don't need them unless they aren't getting their leafy greens. Well, they're not so I guess she'll put them on vitamins at the 15 month appt next week. It just seems strange to me that they aren't on the vitamins. My friend's daughter has been on them since 2 months old!

We stopped vitamins for the kids once they were one. I just started the boys on a mulitvitamin for toddlers because I feel they don't eat enough variety. My DD won't get them until she's about 3 as well, but it will depend on what she eats.

Hi. What is the reason some docs don't give vitamins and others do? My girls never got them as infants either. They were on formula so maybe the vitamins were in the formula?

My older DD was 3 in June, none of mine have ever been on vitamins but I have had several moms I know mention their kids vitamins to me just in passing the last few months. I'm going to ask him about vitamins for all three at H & N's 12 months appt.

Mine were given vitamins (Poly-Vi-Sol) in the NICU, and have stayed on them ever since.

Mine had vitamins as infants because the water here doesn't have flouride, so we needed them for the floride. Now it is hit or miss if they take them, mostly because I never remember them.

Our girls have never been on vitamins and our ped has never said anything about them. As infants, they were on formula with city water, which is fluoridated. They are almost 2 and they certainly don't eat leafy greens! He just said as long as they ate a reasonable diet (given their age), it was fine.

We get flouride drops, but not vitamins. I asked at the 12 yr appt & the pedi said as long as they were getting their veggies they didn't need them. At the time, they ate veggies just fine......but they're getting a little picky now! I think I'll ask again at the 18 mos checkup & see what he says.

No vitamins here. Fluoride in our water, and a decent diet. ALthough, my 3 yr. old does not like veggies, she is still ok.

What kind of vit. do I need for two year olds? Ours do not like to eat many green veggies.

I don't give my girls a "vitamin", I give them JuicePlus. I highly recommend this to any parent, it has a full day supply of fruit and veggies, plus grains. Dr Sears has a write up about it on his website and he explains it much better then I could. :) My girls have been on it since 10-11 month and neither one have been sick, not even a simple runny nose.

no vitamins for my girls. I've never though about it. I'll have to try that juiceplus though.

Nope my two are not on vitamins and neither is my oldest DD (she won't take them). Our ped. never put my oldest on them when she was younger either.

My doc didn't bring it up either, I did. I felt that their diet wasn't that great. They eat okay, but I wasn't sure if it was enough, so I asked the doc what vitamin I should put them on. They are on Poly-vi-sol, something like that. I don't think it's a fairly common thing with the moms I talk to.

Do you give them the chewableables or can you put open the capsules into a drink for them? Madison eats almost no veggies right now, and I've been trying to find some sort of a supplement for her. Juice Plus+ sounds interesting.

I recently got the V8 Fruit Fusion for them as an alternative. Its 100% juice and has a serving of fruits and veggies, but I didn't know if it was still too much sugar. I'm thinking the Juice Plus+ thing would be easier and quicker.

I have them on the JuicePlus Gummies. When they get a little older I may change to the chewables but for now the gummies work great, and they think their getting a treat. :)

We asked our pedi at their 15 month appointment and she did not recommend they take them. She said that as long as they are eating table foods and fortified cereals that they should be getting everything they need. As long as they are growing and are healthy, they shouldn't need to take them.

We also do the juice plus gummies, but I did not know if there was another type they should have. My two love these and wake up asking for them with their water. They are costly, but I think they are well worth it. My husband and I both take the adult juice plus as well.

I have asked my pediatrician at every visit of they should be on vitamins and he continues to say no. Mine do eat a pretty healthy diet, but I always ask the dr.

Mine are on vitamins, but only because we have well water and they take a fluoride supplement that includes vitamins. They get plenty of fruits and veggies, but pedi said the extra vitamins wouldn't hurt them.

My boys were exclusively breastfed, so they took Vitamin D until they started drinking some cow's milk, around 1 year old. Formula-fed babies don't need extra Vitamin D because it's already added to formula. I don't think taking the extra vitamins is as common in the U.S., but here in Canada many doctors recommend it for breastfed babies, especially in the winter.

When I stopped giving them those vitamins I briefly switched to multivitamins, but started getting so forgetful about giving them to them that I stopped altogether. Now that they're reaching that charming toddler stage of not eating 99% of what I give them, though, I'm thinking of starting vitamins of some sort again.

You can get fluoride drops without the vitamins- we have used them since my 4 year old was 6months old. Course...now with the twins...it is really really hard to remember to give them to all three girls.
As long as your kids eat a decent diet (decent meaning they eat some fruits and some veggies, not just pizza and chicken nuggets), they really do not need the vitamins. Not sure though about a preemie, as things are usually different for them. Otherwise, they just come out in their urine, money down the drain.

I can't give mine vitamins - it screws up their digestive systems royally...we gave them vitamins for a week and my DD had terrible gas pains for an entire month after I stopped them!

Mine eat a really varied diet, have never been on vitamins and have never been sick-ever.

I am a Chiropractor and so am very much into as much natural health care as possible (of course I would always go to medical care when necessary). However, I do give them the Juice Plus Gummies, one each of the veggie and fruit per day. They do think they are a treat. Honestly, I first got the Gummies for me because I hate to take capsules of any kind. I do like chewables but I decided to treat myself to the Gummies and I love them!

We have never given our kids vitamins, and we don't plan on it.

We give them Juice Plus+, which is 17 fruits and veggies in a gummy (also comes in capsules and chewables). It is very safe - if my kids eat more, it's just like them having a big salad. I know someone whose DD ate almost a whole tub of gummies and was fine. If that was a multi-vitamin, she would have been at the doctor and maybe had her stomach pumped. There are no drug interactions to worry about since it's just food, and we all need food. :) Juice Plus+ is endorsed by numerous doctors, including Dr. Sears, a well known Pediatrician and author. It is great to know that everyday my kids are eating 17 fruits and veggies, which is more than what I could feed them. And, the research behind it is amazing! After working for a chain of health food stores for several years, I can tell you that you can't find a supplement that has the research behind it that Juice Plus does - that's what sold me on it, so much so that I became a distributor. If you are interested, here is my website: My Juice Plus Website or pm me. I email you or send you any info you need. I'm happy to help. :)

we do a polyvitamin with flouride since our water doesn't have flouride. It also has iron. I like that they are getting vitamins because my girls deffinately do not get enough veggies (we are working on it though). I don't think it can hurt giving it to them and they don't mind taking them (took a few days for them to get used to the strong taste). They have been taking them since they were 1.
