HI all. I am 26w3d with g/b twins. I had another growth scan, and they are still both measuring almost 2 weeks ahead! The midwife said they haven't figured out that they are twins yet, and they are still growing like singletons. I asked her when their growth will slow down, and she said "maybe never". I am only 4'10", and I just can not believe that they are so big. I am wondering if it means that they will come early, or if I need to be prepared to be REALLY uncomfortable if I go to term. Anyone else with two big babies? What does your doctor say about it? Do you know of anyoe who is really short who successfully carried two large babies to term? It would be great if they were 6-7lbs each, I just can't imagine my body holding all that.

Good grief!! I don't know anything about this but it seems that they may just be big kids. I have two boys probably identical (one placenta at 10 weeks and barely visible amnionic wall dividing them) and so far they have been spot on for their gestational age when I go for an ultrasound.

I am looking forward to hearing others answers about your big babies.

i'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it but my doctors always told me that twins progress and mature faster than singletons. I guess that it's Gods way of helping them mature and be ready b/c they wont be in there as long most likely. Maybe that could have something to do with it, just that their progressinga little bit faster b/c of that. Hope maybe i helped a bit. Good Luck...mine were all over the charts but pretty much right on durring my pg. I kept them in 36 weeks. Good Luck!

I was thinking the same as Amanda in that it is possible they are measuring ahead now because they are growing a little faster while they have the space. Often times the growth rate can even off as the space becomes more limited. Full term for multiples is generally categorized as less time than full term for singletons so they tend to mature a little faster in hopes of being prepared for the outside world.

I am over a foot taller than you, and I already feel like I'm out of room for these little babies...I cannot imagine how you're managing 2 big babies in your petite body! You are a trooper! I'm sure they are doing great in there. Hopefully they'll adjust to your size soon!

Mine consistently measured 2 weeks ahead. At 26w they were over 2 1/2 pounds each, at 30 weeks they were 4lbs5oz and 4lbs6oz, at 34 weeks they were both over 6lbs. I delivered them at 38w2d, vaginally, and they were 7lbs11oz and 7lbs10oz and 20 inches tall. My girl is 75th % and my boy just below the 50th %.

My oldest was over 9lbs. And I am 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Mine are measuring big too. My doc said 90th percentile for size for both babies. He said well it's better they're big then small! I was scared about the same thing though - will they get so big that I won't be able to carry them as long. He seemed to think the size was a good thing though!

I am 25 weeks and my girl boy twins consistently measure "older" than they are. I am always concerned I am doing something wrong to cause this i.e. eating too much, eating too much protein, etc...The us techs have told us that it often depends on the tech doing the measuring as each one could come up with something different. She also mentioned something about a 2 week measurement window with twins - whatever that means.

*words of wisdom from my DH - "stop worrying about it, you can't do anything about it anyway." [IMG] - RIGHT!!

    I hope that helps.

My hat is off to you, Franca! Sounds like you had loads of baby in your tummy.
I guess I need to work on getting "off the charts". Rats.

We have very little control over so much of what we are going through. I think that's a big part of me being unhappy at times. It's all very overwhelming and scarey. I think I need to remind myself of that more often... this to will pass.

Good luck with all the babies big and small.

Have you gained alot of weight during the pregnancy? What about your sugar? Are you ok with that? I know GD brings on big babies...I know because Im a pre-dibetic and my two older children weighed nearly 9 lbs at birth. Im around 5'2 and 26wks pg. with twins. One twin is measuring about a week ahead and the other a week behind...so go figure [IMG] I have been really carefull with what I eat but one twin still is growing like a weed!!

So I have no answers...just support!!! good luck!!

Just wanted to add that I didn't even gain a lot of weight, only 43 pounds and I was back to normal 2 weeks post partum, 3 pounds below at 6 weeks and 6 below at 10 weeks (and I am not bf). U/s can be off by 15% though. My friend was told she was having large twins, she delivered them at 37 1/2 week and one was upper 4lbs range and the other one lower 5lbs range ...

I tested negative for GD both times. However I did start to dialate at 32 weeks (2cm), 3 cm at 34 weeks, 4 cm at 36 weeks and I was 4 1/2 cm when I was induced.

    Good luck.

My babies were always bigger than average for singletons (they're girls) and my first two children (boys) weighed 9 lbs and 9 lb 5 oz respectively. My doctor told me though that the girls' growth would slow down around 32 weeks, because that is when a twin pregnancy causes the uterus to measure about the same as a full term singleton pregnancy. So I'd say try not to freak out too much yet- wait and see. I bet their growth will level right off. And you'll be SO glad they grew so much early on so they'll still be big and healthy at birth!

BTW, at 34 w 5 d my girls were measuring 5 lb 9 oz and 5 lb 10 oz!! It really is hard to carry so much baby- just uncomfortable. And I'm 5'9''... so I definitely empathize! Hang in there, though!

I'll answer questions first... I have just been tested for GD, and my sugar levels were fine, so it isn't that. They have both been measuring 1-2 weeks ahead since my 10w scan, so it isn't new this week. Also, my scans alternate between my OB and a midwife, and they are both seeming to be similar, so I presume it isn't just off measurements. As of today, Baby Boy is about 2.5lbs, and Baby Girl is about 2.3lbs. She estimated their length at about 30cm.
    Thanks everyone for the responses.

A side note to my post - as I mentioned my babies have been consistently measuring ahead. I; however, have not gained a pound in the past two months. I am very petite and still take daily 45 minute walks. I asked my doctor if I was eating too much and she said the babies will take what they want and it had nothing to do with what I have been doing - particularly since I haven't gained a pound in the past two months. I guess they just grow how they want to grow - independent little buggers [IMG]

I am 26w6d pregnant with b/g twins. I have consistently measured 2 weeks large on each of my bi-weekly ultrasounds. The perinatologist was concerned that it might be gestational diabetes, but the test was normal. My regular OB said that the babies looked perfect and that she wasn't concerned about their size. She said that big babies are healthy babies. Also, I have been gaining approx. 1lb. per week and my OB is encouraging me to gain more weight. I don't know how people can eat enough to gain more than that. The babies take up all of the room already!! [IMG]

I was thinking the same thing...and I'm not even a foot taller. I was huge when I was pregnant and I couldn't imagine being your height and pregnant with twins. Not to scare you [IMG] Mine measured ahead the ENTIRE pregnancy, and they were great sizes. 7lbs 4oz and 6lbs 4oz at 35w 6d. Here is a picture of me at around 28/29 weeks, just to show you how big I was, again, not to scare you [IMG] Sorry about the bad light...it was the scanner that did it, but the belly is still visible.

Yip my two girls also measure ahead but only a little more than a week. my doc also said that it should slow down and that he will now measure it every second week as we do not want to end up with me pregnant with 15 pounds of babies inside of me. yikes i can not imagine that as it is already a mission to do anything properly or fast
