Hi everyone. I am just wondering about your experience with early contractions and/or Braxton Hicks. I am just about 16 weeks pregnanct and I get them all the time . . .just an intense obvious tightening accross my lower abdomen. Has anyone else experienced this. I tried to pin my doctor down and get him to explain to me which contractions I need to worry about vs. which I don't and all he said was, real contractions are very painful . . .duh . . .I know that, I've had a baby, but I don't know how painful early labor contractions would be at this point in a pregnancy . . .and with my singleton I never had them this early. DO you think that because its twins these contractions happen more often? Do I need to worry? THe problem is that is I went to the hospitol/doctor every time I thought it might be bad I would be there daily! I am just constantly worried which I'm sure doesn't help things . . . .Just looking for some info. about all of your experiences. Thanks :)

I had BH contractions before i even knew i was having Twins.. I found out at 17.5 weeks. If they are comming at regular times call the Dr!

this may not be helpful, or even make much sense, but... i'll get what feels like contractions (i only know how this feels because when i miscarried last summer, i went into labor with contractions and all, blah), but for me (maybe TMI) it ends up being gas or a bowel movement making its way, because i'm either constipated or i'm "the opposite or constipated" (hehe), both of which make your whole abdomen area uncomfortable, tight and painful... just an idea?

I had contractions from about 18 weeks on. My OB told me as long as there isn't a pattern or not too painful not to worry about them. You will be able to tell if they are real...trust me!!!

I had contractions from about 16 wks on as well. I noticed I would get them when I had been on my feet for too long. So my OB put me on Modified bedrest. I took it really easy from that point on. By about 26 wks i was on full Bedrest since I was starting to dialate. It is not uncommon to feel them that early from what I'm told.

I would ask your OB to do a transvaginal U/S to measure your cervix length, just to be safe. I was having contractions I didn't even feel, and it shortened my cervix at 16 weeks.

:sign0016: to TS! Congrats on your twin pregnancy!

I started BH's with the twins at 14 weeks. I didn't find out it was twins until I was 21 weeks. My advice to you is to really up your intake of water, I was nowhere near drinking enough to support 2 babies. Also, listen to those contractions, and rest! Your body is trying to tell you something! BH's can change your cervix, so you want to keep them at a minimum. Also, like the PP said, I would request a T/V U/S on your cervix, so you have a baseline and know if your cervix is changing. Lots of rest, lots of water. Hang in there momma! :hug99:

Water, water and more water! I had them too and it was because I was dehydrated. I would inform my OB and I make sure you get a vaginal u/s to make sure your cervix is ok.
