Well, it all started December 1st with runny noses and dry coughs. I am not sure if the cold keeps getting passed back and forth which is why it has lasted so long. My son still has a nasal problem but my daughter is coughing and stuffed up. Her cough sounds wet. They had fevers last week for a couple of days but no fevers since. They have not been coughing the entire time they have been sick! I am just so tired and ready for them to get over it. We have lots of plans for Christmas which may be cancelled if they are still sick. Anyone else dealing with this? I keep telling my daughter to cover her mouth when she coughs but she only remembers sometimes. I hope my son doesn't start coughing again. I have been taking them in my bathroom and having them breathe the steam from a hot shower. Any other ideas? Please help. :(

I can totally relate! My girls have been doing the exact same things since around Dec. 1 also. Today I decided to take them to the Dr. to make sure they didn't have strep or something. Turns out they both have ear infections in their left ear. Just started on the amoxicillin and they are already doing better. Good luck, I hope they get better soon. You may need to take them to the Dr. I know its hard to determine if its just a cold or viral thing, but since it is still sticking around, they may need medicine.

My Gabe was sick for about 3 weeks as well. Started just before Thanksgiving and went until about last week. It was miserable. Started with fever, then coughing/runny nose then coughing so hard that he would throw up. My other boys just got a tad runny nose but nothing else. By the time I could take him to the doctor, what ever it was had corrected itself and I just got meds for the coughing.

Sorry you are going through this. It's not fun at all!

You are so not alone. My kids have literally had about 3 healthy weeks since the middle of October!! Arwen has had pneumonia twice this month!! Lorien (who hardly ever gets sick) is getting over another very bad cold/cough and double ear infection and I suspect the cough will take a good while to go away since they don't know how to cough it up and OUT. My ped told me to basically accept that they will be sick through May (nice, huh?). But as the ped pointed out, I could either deal with this now while they build up their immunity or I can deal with it when they start school. I guess I'd rather deal with it now and allow them the chance to build up antibodies and immunity and be a little stronger and healthier when they begin being exposed to other kids on a regular basis. But it still sucks to have to deal with it at all.

I know...It is just so hard to tell if it is a viral or bacterial thing. I have a questionn for you. My kids have never had an ear infection. Do they always have a fever with an ear infection? Since my kids can communicate with me, I keep asking them if their ears hurt and they tell me no. I am assuming that they would tell me that their ears hurt. Am I wrong in assuming that? Could they have ear infections but not much pain? I had ear infections like crazy as a kid but remember that hurting badly. Thanks for your help. I am glad you figured out what your girls have. I hope they get well soon!

I never could tell if my two had an ear infection. If I suspected it I just took them in for a check. Most of the time they did! argh! Hope yours are better for Christmas.

My Lauren is really sick, too. Our pedi worked her into his schedule yesterday since she was wheezing. She's had the crud forever it seems. I hope your little ones get better soon.

Our kids also started catching something on Dec. 1st. This week, they were finally well enough to go to Tuesday School and Little Gym. I think it has been about 2 months since we've been to church because one of the 3 has been sick every single Sunday. The girls haven't acted sick since about a week into the cold but the wet cough and runny nose mean I can't take them anywhere with other kids. Dax just got over it this weekend.

I know just how you feel. We haven't been to church in months, too. I feel so bad about it. I really wanted to go but now all three of my kids are sick.
