I bought this gadget from BRU to block access to little reaching hands on the stove. It seemed like a great concept and I don't know if I messed it up or if it's faulty but I don't have the box or receipt anymore so I can't return it. Basically it's a long adjustable plastic piece that attaches either to the front of the stove or on top to block access to the burners or pots and pans on them. I thought it would give me more freedom to cook while the girls are around since I can not block my kitchen off or them into any place else in the downstairs area. So it works with these sticky things that you peel the paper off both sides (one side for the guard and one side to stick to the stove). Now, I had to adjust the thing a couple of times so I pulled it off maybe 2 or 3 times to adjust the guard to make it longer. The thing worked for about 2 days and then one night in the middle of the night it fell off and we thought someone was breaking into our house it was so loud from upstairs. Come to find the thing laying on the floor. The next day, I stuck it on again and while I was cooking, the thing just fell off. Not sure if it was the heat of the burners or the sticky things not working. What do you think? Where could I buy those sticky things and try again? Can you recommend one that worked for you? TIA

That stoveguard thing was a total frustration for me. Yeah, it kept falling off every few days. No matter how hard I cleaned and wiped down with alcohol, etc. Too bad. It seemed like a great product till it landed on the floor. Now we don't use anything.

Oops , forgot to add that even I tried using new sticky stuff (you can buy it in a roll from a hardware store, Home Depot, etc.) and it still failed. The stove guard I had was Prince LionHeart.

I had the same problem. I really thought that is was falling off because of the cleaning spray when I cleaned the stove top off. I know that we were putting it back on every other day. Love the gadget, but it just didn't work right.

I tried that thing with my oldest and had the same problem. Luckily we live in a place I can gate the kitchen but in your case I'd just use the back burners until they learn to stay away from the stove.

I bought one but I never wound up using it. Now, I only cook on the back burners where the boys can't reach. I have had a problem with the similar oven locks. I've had two of them fall off after a few months. I don't think that adhesive can handle the high temperatures.

I also use backburners when I am cooking and the boys are around.

I also have problems with my two opening the stove door and jumping up and down it... so I found a refridgerator latch to use and it worked great!

Maybe you could use the 3M stuff that sticks but you can take it off w/o it leaving any marks?

"since I can not block my kitchen off or them into any place else in the downstairs area."

have you thought about using a superyard and putting it where they can see you in the kitchen and VV?

I would also suggest using back burners for stove-top cooking. While the oven is not in use, I use the cleaning lock to lock the oven door. The oven will not work (except to clean) while the cleaning lock is engaged, so if I am cooking something in the oven I use duck tape to tape the oven door closed. Not the most elegant method of locking the oven, but it is the only one that has worked for us so far!

I can't answer your actual question, but... Are you sure you need to childproof the stove? It's been on my to-do list for months, but the fact is that my girls don't really touch the stove that much. And they're really only in the kitchen when I'm in the kitchen, so I can swat their hands away and say "HOT!" So far, that has worked.

We also put the door lock on. It doesn't help with the burners, but at least the door won't come open if they yank on it while I'm not looking.

Thanks guys for your responses. I just happened to scroll all the way down to see the days posts and realized that my post was there. I thought that I had lost it when I made it because when I hit the add post button it didn't appear to go through. Anywhoo...

The one I had was also the Lionheart one so it's interesting to know that they have a faulty childproof product. Perhaps an email to let them know and make them aware would be a good idea.

I would use the back burners (and for their food I usually do) but when I cook dinner for dh and I, I tend to use the bigger pots and pans and the back burners are too small. The big ones are up front <_< . My girls have this habit of attatching themselves at my hip (well to my leg really) whenever I'm in the kitchen and it scares me. I'm so scared they are going to burn themselves as it only takes a second or so for them to get burned. Guess I'll play around with some of your ideas and see what I can do about it. I'm just so tired of waiting to cook dinner when the girls go to bed (8:00). Dh and I end up not eating until 8:45-9pm which is absolutely rediculous.

    thanks again for your responses.

I cook on the back burners and removed the dial handles that light and adjust the fire. I put one on when I need to cook and NEVER leave the stove unattended while cooking something. When I am finished I immediately remove the dials again. I used to have plastic covers for the dials. But DH kept breaking them because he couldnt figure them out...
