I was thinking this past week that I want to put the kids into a local AWANA program (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed). They are nearly 4 and I think that they are old enough to start scripture memorization. I wondered if any of you have done this with your preschoolers? The girls do not attend preschool because we are homeschooling and really have very few outlets where they interact with other kids...and frankly, I don't even think about playgroups much because they have each other (never bored).

    Anyone else do AWANA?? TIA!

I have never heard of AWANA. I am looking forward to learning more about it.

I know my two neices, age 3 and 5 do AWANA and LOVE it! My church does a Wednesday Night Kids Club, so we don't do AWANA, but I know my sister has been very pleased with the program. Abigail and Anna are learning a lot and AWANA is also reinforcing what they learn at home...

My oldest son does AWANA and the twins will start in September! I LOVE it, he LOVES it! I totaly recommend it!

We started memorizing scripture with our son before he could talk, and you woul dbe so suprised at what their little brains can remember and take in!! Its so neat...

Anyway, back to AWANA... We are also home schooling and I am pretty picky about play groups (since I have so many little ones to tote around!) so this is one of the outlets that is good that he gets to participate in. He really does love it... And its so fun when they get new patches and such...

Well, now I guess you know that I am PRO AWANA! LOL!

I did it with my dd. I think it was the most wonderful program for preschoolers! I can't say she remembered scripture, but I know that she started her love for Jesus in that classroom!

I need to look for that program here. Our church doesn't offer it. thanks for the reminder!

I remember going to AWANA with some friends when I was a kid. While I don't remember learning scripture, the main thing I did learn there was the list of the books of the bible in order, and I retain that to this day.

My kids are in a Kid's Klub at church every Wednesday, as well as Sunday School, and they attend at least 2 Vacation Bible Schools each summer, so I don't think I'd put them in an AWANA program, too, but I remember enjoying the program.

My 3 year old is in AWANAS and he absolutely LOVES it! The scripture verses are very short and easy to remember plus they get a lot of prompting. I think it's great!

We do Awana as a family. My twins are 4 and go to Cubbies. My husband is a leader with 3rd and 4th grade boys and I'm the director of the 3rd/4th grade girls. My oldest daughter is in my group. It is amazing how much they can memorize at a young age. They really love to go. We have about 300 kids in our program.
