Anyone drop bottles cold turkey?

We have one bottle fed baby and one breast fed baby. Both have mastered sippys. The problem lies in the fact we havent been given the green light to start whole milk yet (which is understandable as we are not quite 1).... I dont want to offer anything warm in a sippy cup (such as formula and my freezer stash is gone!).
They will drink water and/or juice from a sippy all day long. My DD has dropped to 3-4 (4oz) bottles all on her own and wont take more than that.
So my question is- once we are allowed to do whole milk, anyone just cut the bottles out all together??? Just cold turkey?

YES..I am all about cold turkey and all three of my kids have done great with it. At one year, bottles were gone, formula was gone- no more. I do use the Nuby sippy cups, which have a soft spout, and then later will transition to a sippy cup with a hard spout. They'll do great!

No answers here... Just a question - why does formula have to be warm? Our boys eat formula at room temp (I just use room temp water to mix with the formula) and they have always taken it that way. We have never tried formula in a sippy, but that speaks more to our sippy skills or lack thereof than anything else. :)

Honestly, the smell of formula makes me sick! So somehow in my mind if I warm it up for my bottlefed baby Im 'helping' her. Im glad Im not a baby or Id starve cause just the smell is awful LOL I guess I also dont want to put formula in a sippy because I want her to think formula is for bottles just as I have never put water/juice into a bottle. Ive only ever put it in a cup. Make sense?

I did cold turkey without a problem. I did get them used to sippies by putting the morning formula in it for about a week or two, just to get them used to the idea. The trick to cold turkey is to get rid of the bottles completely.

We went cold turkey to bottles at 11 months, 1 week (with an okay from the pedi because we had no weight issues). I didn't transition at all. We went from formula in bottles one day to milk in sippies the next. One of my girls did great with the sippy, the other one not so much. It took a little bit of learning, and in the process her consumption dropped for about a week, but then we got the soft spout Nuby cups and they both did much better.

Like Michelle said, I think you can as long as there are no weight issues. Mine have a weight issue, they are in the 5th percentile for weight, so the pediatrician wants us to try to get 24 oz of milk or milk/formula in them and to no longer give them water with juice mixed in for right now. I want to drop bottles so bad and mine have done well with the bottles we dropped so far. Good luck whatever you decide to do!

If you don't want to do formula in sippies (we switched to formula sippies at 10mos with the twins then just changed the formula to milk close to a year) I'd wait til you're ready to start milk and go for it. I did it a feeding at a time to give them a chance to get used to the change and for my breasts to adjust to the change for my b/f babies. I cold turkey'd the lunch feeding first, waited a few days then the dinner (afternoon) feeding, a few more days the breakfast feeding and then last the bedtime feeding. The twins took to it so well that I only waited a few days between dropping the lunch and afternoon bottles and then we dropped the breakfast and bedtime the very next day. Can I tell you how happy I was to drop those bottles in the trash compactor?? LOL

I only offered milk in sippies. It was never offered in a bottle. We made the swtich one day. NO more bottles. We did it right about 1 year

I went cold turkey with Owen. He's that kind of kid. "Weaning" him into or out of anything was impossible! I also did it at one year-just sippies and cows milk/juice/water from then on. He screamed one night. And then it was over. I cried more than he did! Lol...
