Anyone ditch bottles BEFORE 1 year of age?

My DD LOVES LOVES LOVES her cup! I think shes had it with bottles. Everytime I give her one she looks at me like Im crazy.
If you hold up both she will take the cup over the bottle any day and really its 95% water! My only concern is fluid intake.

Shes not 12 months yet so she still needs formula/BM.
I do not want to serve her COLD formula (personal issue I have, it just seems disgusting to me, the stuff smells bad enough as is). Do you think I would be creating a bad habit by putting WARM formula in a sippy and just ditching the bottles?

Anyone quit bottles before 1 year of age?

I did with my first because like you, she was ready. I would say she was 10 months if I remember. I got permission from her dr to actually stop formula. The dr said she was close enough and she was getting so much of what she needed from a very well balanced solid food menu I had her on. They say every child is different, learns differently and develops differently. I say let her go at her own pace and if she is ready, then she is ready. Maybe you could talk to her dr about formula and how much longer the dr thinks she might really need it? I think I also at that time started her an infant multi to make up for the formula and the dr did some blood work just to make sure she was getting every thing she needed. Learning things like how to use a sippy, or how to use a glass or even a straw each will help the baby in motor skills and speach. So no matter what you do, encourage those good skills she is picking up.

If she is getting enough in a cup, go for it. We got off bottles right at a year. They loved the sippy too. However mine were fine with cold formula.

We were completely off by 11 months. Not a problem aT ALL. I switched them to sippies w/ whole milk. Never looked back!!

I wouldn't warm the milk/formula. Just making more trouble for YOURSELF in the long run. You could switch right to milk if you're getting rid of bottles anyway. They have to get used to cold milk eventually. The NICU nurses told me not to even serve warm formula cuz it doesn't matter to the baby as long as it's always the same temp.

    Good luck!!

I ditto the cold formula - mine got it right out of the fridge from birth - one of the tips from another set of new parents!

anyway we got rid of bottles at about 13 months - I gave them a bottle one day and they tossed it aside - I poured the formula into a cup (they were on formula till nearly 14 mos due to size) and they drank it down...

My babies aren't that age yet, but with my sister's second she switched him to whole milk at 10months because he was still colicky -- and apparently that solved the issue. Whole milk worked better with his system. So - I think you can ask your pedi if you can switch to whole milk and use the sippy. Heck, I would if I were you. I wouldn't think twice.

As long as she's getting enough from the cup, go for it!

I wouldn't worry about temp. If you don't mind warming it, go for it. You can always switch to cold later. It's so easy to start worrying that everything you do will create some carved-in-stone habit, but really, babies change so fast & are really resilient anyway. So do it your way! ;)

Yes, my twins were on whole milk in cups at 11.5 months old. We did not even wait until one year. A few weeks did not matter to us!!

We've been bottle free all day :)
I gave her a warm sippy of formula for breakfast, and a cold sippy for lunch. seemed to make no difference she was just happy to have her cup :)
We'll stick with formula till our 1 year check but thanks for the confidence to ditch the bottles :)

We stopped bottles and switched to sippies of formula at 10 months old. They had mastered the sippies and were ready!
