Before I got pregnant I had the idea that I would not want my kids to use a pacifier or suck their thumbs. Well now that I'm a new mom with twins I am thankful that my baby boy has taken to a pacifier to calm him at times but my little girl refuses to take it and gets angry when I try to give it to her. (they are 1 1/2 weeks old) I don't want them to use it all the time but I would like to use it to calm them down if I have to change, feed the other and when they wake up or first go down to sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her to like it?

Have you tried different kinds? They are so many different shapes, etc. that she may like one better than another. A&C were paci babies and Elizabeth has never taken one. Some babies just have more of a need to suck for comfort than others do.

Will has always liked his paci. John has only just started warming up to his - and they're 5 months old! :) The way we got John to get interested... we held him like he was nursing, then stuck the paci in his mouth so the paci is held in my either my or DH's chest. Hope this makes sense. We use the Soothies pacis, and our boys really like them.

    HTH!

I agree with pp. Try different types of pacifiers. My dd and ds took pacifiers for a little bit, but they both preferred different kinds. We went to Target and bought a few to try with them.

My oldest dd liked the nuks, my second dd sucked her thumb, and my third did nothing. It sucked (no pun intended!) b/c my boob was her pacifier! My twins like nuks, thank God! I agree that you should keep trying different ones. All the nephews I have used nuks too. They seem to be a popular choice among the little ones. GL :)

I have to say that I went through the same thing with my babies. I just assumed that all babies loved pacifiers. I was wrong, because mine were not big fans. My daughter still has no use for them and I have tried different brands with her. My son just got into them since he started teething.

Oh also, some babies just don't like paci's at all. My oldest DD never would take one, but she started sucking her thumb around 1. She still does <_< and there is nothing I have found yet to break her of this. Oh well, perhaps kindergarten will do the trick!! Just hope the kids aren't to mean about it

Try the different kinds. Also when they are awake and happy hold in in their mouths so they get used to it. Even hold in gthem like nursing so it is against your chest to keep it in there helps so they get used to sucking it.THere are Here is a like to a pacimals that is a paci attached to a stuffed animal to have them hug and help keep the paci in their mouth. Just a nother suggestion. i am sure you could make your own with a paci that your babies liked my attaching it to a stuffed animal like a beanie baby. Good luck THey really help to soothe espeaclly in public.
