Any tips from others with GD about dealing with it?

I'm sorry to post again about GD. I just found out I have it and I'm going to be seeing a doctor in the next few days about treatments. I'm just wondering (since I know nothing about it) if anyone who has it has any advice for me? I have a few questions too...

If you keep it under control the way your are supposed to, are your babies born with symptoms anyway?
Does it usually go away after delivery?
Any ideas for some healthy snacks?

    Thanks

You will meet with a dietician, and they will tell you what you should and shouldnt eat..YOu cant eat a bunch of fruit unless you also eat protein with it.

Sometimes diet alone works, unfortunately for me it did not

With my last pg i ended up being on insulin shots in the evening and morning, though it was a low dose it was still 2 times a day..

Right now Im taking 8 units at bedtime only. My fasting sugars have been high and now they are rising again, so Im gonna end up increasing my bedtime dose, not a biggy really.

peanut butter is a FREEBIE..lol so I find myself eating LOTS of it..on apples on low carb bread.

I alwys eat eggs in the morning with cheese. Cheese is another freebie...

The babies blood sugars will be checked for 24-48 hrs, this is done by heel pricks. Normally they arent really affected by it unless your sugars were high at time of delivery...

Most of the time GD goes away after delivery, I am insulin resistant when NOT pg so I have a great risk of being diabetic later on in life.

Healthy snacks, fruits coupled with a protein, cheese or peanut butter, veggie that are green are great. I would recommend buying low carb bread if you like bread..it tastes good. I get low carb/no sugar ice cream for my sweet tooth. YOu can still eat good things, just smaller portions or have to make slight changes, like splenda instead of sugar, etc...

GL its really not that bad...lol

Its really not as bad as ppl make it out to be...I would rather deal with this than ptl, or something more serious..

I had GD and i ate a piece of cheese cake right after the babies were born!!!
I met with a dietician and its mostly eating a lot of protien and a lot of fiber. I did not have to check my blood..
My fav snack was the sugar free popcicles and sugar free pudding.. I also ate a lot of cheese and crackers and grilled cheese's.
I was diagnosed at about the same time as you... Its really not too bad.. healthier for the babies..
