Hi - I'm already taking Zantac and Rolaids on occasion but I still get reflux at times. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a quick fix when I get into the situation when I feel like I'm really close to throwing up so that I don't. With my first pregnancy I had it really bad, and in the end of my pregnancy threw up several times week. Is there anything I can do to get that horrible feeling out of my throat when it does happen? Tums & Rolaids doesn't take it away....I just wonder if there is some magical food or something that I can eat. I've heard bananas but those seem to make it worse.

    Thanks!

Wish I had a solution for you, because that would mean I had one for me, too! I've tried all the OTC stuff, as well as Reglan and Zantac and now Protonix, which is delivered via IV. Nothing helps. At this point, I think it's just the relaxed stomach valve and squished stomach causing problems and no amount of meds can fix it... at least that's what I tell myself. Even if I eat just a little, it sits in my throat like it's going to come right back up -- it sucks!

Nexium was a GODSEND!!! It really took away the pain. I was also on Zantac. Maybe it was the combo. I used to wake up unable to breathe and feel like I was choking. I also lost my voice from the reflux damaging my vocal chords.... The nexium didn't make the reflux stop happening, just took away the pain.

    Good luck!

My doctor has me taking papaya enzyme tablets from the health food store for my acid. The tablets help right away and have made a huge difference for me.

I had bad refulx starting around 17 weeks. By 20 weeks, I was going through a bottle of Tums every 4 days in addition to twice daily Pepcid AC with no relief. My peri started me on Protonix and it was been wonderful! I have only had a handful of occasions lately (mostly when waking up in the middle of the night) where I have had mild heartburn, but I really don't think I would have survived without the Protonix!
