Hello! I am guessing no one knows this answer for certain. But I heard another wives tale yesterday. A woman at work told me that their family thinks the daugher is having a girl because the baby's heart rate was so high, like 160sih.

I am wondering this because I have two boys at home. I would love to have a girl, at least one. When we saw the heartbeats at week 6, they were 125 and 129. At 10 weeks, we heard one of the heartbeats and it was 139. We were not able to pick up the other heartbeat (doc thinks my nervous and loud heartbeat was drowning out the other one).

So, is there any relation to gender and heartrates?

I go in for a nuchal scan tomorrow and hope hope hope and pray pray pray to see/hear both heartbeats.

Old Wives Tale, you can't trust it. Heart rates change constantly throughout your pregnancy. My son was high during many appts, where my daughter ranged high and low.

I think that it is an old wives tale, but I have been wondering the rates that they associate with boys & girls... Just for the fun of it more than anything. I wouldn't start buying pink or blue based on this information though. :p

Nope, no relation. I had a pretty good case study going on and their rates always fluctuated depending on activity (high number when active, low number when resting) not gender.

My babies heartrates were consistently in the high 150's to mid-160's the entire time. I had two boys. Studies have been done on this and concluded that there was no correlation of gender to heartrate.

Interestingly enough, a study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology did find that there is a difference in the heart rates of male and female fetuses during labor only. Scientists found that female fetuses had "significantly faster" heart rates than male fetuses AFTER the onset of labor.

Which is pretty useless because by the time you are in labor, you are moments away from determining the sex anyway :)

I think it's an old wives tale, but it was true for my 2 DD's. They both had very fast h/bs and my DS's was slower always in the 140s. I have met a lot of people who it held true for, but just as many that it didn't. They told my mom that I was a boy because mine was always in the 140s. But yes, I've often heart fast h/b=girl and slow=boy, but I don't think there is any merit to back it up. But it was true for me.

For the most part when we had the h/r taken we had one higher and one lower. But the wives tale would have had my DS as my DD and vice versa as the sides they were on did not correspond to the h/r's.

I had one boy high and one boy low. It's no more accurate than random guessing. :D

This worked for us. I think it isn't a number per se, but the difference. With the twins my son was always below 140 and my daughter was always over 150. With my 3rd child (son) he was always below 140. Guess what I am trying to say is that for me, my boys are below 140 but it could be a different number for other people.

The old wives tale was true for my twins - their heart rates have been in the 140s and 160s each time they've checked so far, and I have 2 girls. It's probably going to be true about 50% of the time...

Mine always had almost identical rates and I had B/G. It's as good of an indicator as flipping a coin.
