Any recommendations for durable decking in harsh winters?

Our wooden deck has started splintering badly after a few winters and now we’re considering replacing it. I’m curious what decking materials or builders people recommend for durability and winter resistance. Should we go with composite, or is natural wood still worth it?

We had to replace our deck last spring and wanted something that could survive Canadian winters without needing constant upkeep. We went with https://oakshs.ca/deck-builders/, and it made a huge difference. They gave us a breakdown of wood vs. composite, and we ended up going with composite for durability. It doesn’t fade, splinter, or warp, even under snow and ice. Their team also helped us reconfigure the layout for better drainage, and now we don’t get any of those pooling issues. They finished the job ahead of schedule and cleaned up everything before leaving. Honestly, it made entertaining on the deck feel possible again. Highly recommend checking them out if you’re in the same boat.
