I will be 38 weeks tomorrow with fraternal twin boys. My doctor's have obviously talked to me about being induced, but I really don't think I want to be. I've had a complication-free pregnancy and both boys have been head down for the entire second half of my pregnancy. They are in perfect position to be born vaginally. At my last appt. on Tuesday, they said I was 4 cm dilated and about 80-90% effaced and they were 6 lb 12 oz and 6 lb 4 oz at my ultrasound 1.5 weeks ago. I would hate to be induced, have the induction fail and then end up with a c-section that could have been avoided had I let things happen naturally. I would love to get some feedback from women that have been fortunate enough to let things happen completely naturally and not get induced and what week you finally did have them. Thanks.

Welcome to TS and Congratulations on your twin pregnancy! I have no experienced with induction, but I think you should follow your gut and do what feels right for you (so long as your Dr's agree! ;)) Good Luck!

I don't have the answer you're looking for, but I was induced at 36wk 4d, both were head down. I delivered DS vaginally, but then DD prolapsed her umbilical cord and they had to do an emergency c-section. If it hadn't been for that little trick of DD's, I think she would have been vaginal, too.
GL! it's not an easy decision.

It is very very unlikely to have a failed induction when you're already 4 cm dialated. I was induced at 38w2d with the twins, was 4 1/2 cm (had been dialated since 32 weeks), no complications. At 6 am they had me on Pitocin, at 8 am I was 5 1/2 cm (without feeling a single contraction), they broke my water, gave the epidural, I was complete just after 10 am, and they were born at 10.32 am (4 pushes) and 10.36 am (breech extraction). Very fast and very smooth, they even had to turn the Pitocin of. Looking back, they just had to push me over the edge ... and then everything went quick and full force. They were close to 8lbs a piece, estimated lower 6lbs range at 34 weeks, which turned out to be correct.

    Hi mama,

Just thought I would let you know that on mothering.com, there are many stories of women who have twins naturally without induction or C-section. Just search under twin stories and you will find a lot of examples. All done without a problem and very healthy babies and mother after.

I was not induced but I was begging my doctor to induce me! She said no, that the babies would come when they were ready. Actually I think every week that I saw her she'd promise me that we'd talk about induction at the next appointment. I thought I was going to be pregnant forever. At 34 weeks I was 1 cm dilated and at 36 weeks I was 3 cm. FINALLY at 36 weeks 5 days in the late afternoon I got up to use the bathroom and my water broke! I was so excited. I had a complication free vaginal delivery, both girls were head down. The entire labor (first time labor) was just under 8 hours.

I was induced at 37w5d, because my OB didn't want me to go past 38 weeks. I didn't want to be induced, but after doing a little research and finding out that mortality rates go up after 38 w/ twins, I agreed.

I was induced at 38 weeks, my DD was a little oblique, so they broke my water and did an aversion to turn her head down...

9 hours later, I had a seamless vaginal delivery, my DD at 5:04, my DS at 5:08.

I was glad to be induced....I was so done being pregnant at that point...LOL.

Since you feel like you can hang out until they are ready, I would avoid an induction. This isn't a "twin" related experience, but I was induced (pitocin) with my 2nd daughter, I was 7 days overdue. It was not a good experience at all. I know everyone has a different experience, but being induced in my opinion was terrible. I won't go into extreme details, but I would not recommend it to anyone. My 1st daughter was 8 days overdue & I just waited it out & declined being induced. She appeared on her own just a day or so after they had wanted to induce & I had a completely natural vaginal delivery. It was very quick and was 10x easier than my 2nd daughters. I didn't have an epidural for either, so that might have made a difference with the induction....but I declined it since I remembered my 1st time around as being much easier. I didn't even imagine that being induced would be so much worse & so painful.

Good luck with your decision & Congrats!!! :) It sounds like your boys are doing awesome!!!
