Now that I have been awake for almost 24 hours I am at the end of my rope. My legs are getting so bad for restless leg that warm baths and showers are no longer working for them. I have been up since 9:30 am on sunday morning and it is almost 6:15 am on Monday morning.... I can't sleep. If I don't move my legs I get sharp pains up them but other then my legs the rest of my body feels pretty much asleep..... Anyone have any ideas on anything else that might help them? Besides putting myself into exhaustion....(which makes it worse)

Wow your night sounds just like mine. It is driving me insane and when I lay on my left side, with in 10 min my arm is completely numb and in pain. My legs start at my hips and radiate down my leg.

I am just chiming in because I need some relief something bad! I gotta get some sleep

 Have you tried elevating your legs? Or sleeping in a recliner? I'm sorry about the leg pain, it's no fun and caused many long nights here as well. Call your doctor and see if they have any suggestions.

Are you getting enough calcium and magnesium? they are both required for contraction and relaxation of muscles. being pg with twins means a greater requirement than with a singleton but you should not just take 2 prenatals.- don't forget there are 2 extra hearts beating away, as well as all that moving and kicking.

Make sure your prenatal contains 1200mg calcium and 600mg magnesium (the citrate versions are the most easily absorbed). I checked with a dietitian because I was unsure how much extra to take for twins. I take a regular prenatal & add extra calcium / magnesium & vit D.

In addition before going to bed you can take an extra 200mg magnesium (I use magnesium glycinate from metagenics or magnesium citrate from solgar). This help to relax you generally and specifically your muscles which really helps getting a good night sleep.
There is no harm in trying it because magnesium doesn't build up in your body - you pee out what you don't need. I was waking up with dreadful cramps until I added the extras. If you find that you are sleeping too deeply - try cutting the pill in half.

Let me know how you get on and good luck!

My doctor knows. I will try taking the calcium again and will pick up magnesium. He had me taking calcium on top of my prenatal vitamins and wants me to take iron to. I have a bad gag reflex and pills set it off and make me sick so he took me off the calcium so that I could take my prenatal vitamins and iron pills. I will start taking calcium today and hopefully that works! Thank you so much! I did end up gettin an hour and half of sleep!

I had the same problem. I was getting plenty of calcium, but my legs bones still ached at night. I was given a Snoogle, a long pillow for pregnant women, and I have not had the leg problems since sleeping with it. You can buy them at Babies R Us. Get one today!

I've always had restless leg issues - even prior to being pregnant. Try stretching at least once or twice a day - real nice stretches in the legs - including hamstrings, quads, ankles, calves. Also, potassium helps with restless leg... eat bananas!!

Being pregnant, my hips have started hurting. I was told to sleep with a pillow between my legs - which I didn't understand the reason at first. Then my friend told me that our hips bones are separating. So, when we sleep and our legs are together - it pulls on the hip bones. So if you either use the pregnancy pillow, or just take a regular, somewhat firm pillow, and put it between your legs so that your legs are about hip width, it removes the pressure. I've been doing this and it has helped. I still get a little pain, but not nearly as bad.

    Good luck!
