Hi there, I am totally new to the whole twin thing, I just found out 2 weeks ago that there were twins. Of course we are excited, but I have gotten very little information from my doctor about how things are different and what to expect. Are there any good twin books or resources that anyone can suggest. I have lots of questions and concerns about work, doctor visits, delivery, ect. I have a 3 year old daughter and I had a really easy pregnancy with her. I called out sick on the day I went into labor (5 days after my due date), and have been hearing all sorts of things reading on line about not being able to work at 26 weeks? I am 15 weeks 2 days now, and in the process of job hunting (we just moved out of state). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Stephanie!
I'm 22 weeks pregnant with twin boys! I haven't been able to get a lot of information either...even finding books in our local Barnes & Noble has been a pain. But, if you're looking for great info, THIS is the place to be! I've only been here for about a week and the things I've discovered have been of great help! Everyone seems to willing to answer any questions I may have.

    Good luck!

I agree that TS is a GREAT source of info, not just this forum but the others, as well....

Before i found it, though, I read Twinspiration by Cheryl Lage, Ready or Not Here We Come by Elizabeth Lyons, and Double Duty by Christina Baglivi Tinglof. I found them all on Amazon.com I would really recommend Twinspiration, i found it so entertaining, easy to read and relate to, and it seems practical, i'll let you know after my babies are born!! The other 2 were good, too, but really nothing beats coming here and getting answers from people who have lived through it....

    HTH

Congrats to both of you on your twins. I am expecting boy/girl twins. The two best books I found were Twinspiration by Cheryl Lage and When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads by Dr. Barbara Luke. They both have great info. I think that When You're expecting twins is a bit more on the conservative side, but both have been a great help. I got both on Amazon.com for pretty reasonable prices. Good luck with your pregnancies and take it easy....Melissa

Hi Stephanie! Welcome to TS and congrats on your pregnancy. I also recommend Barbara Luke's book. It has some great information in it.

If you're looking for additional support, TS has a Big Sister program where we match you with someone who's been in your shoes. If you're interested, just send me a PM.

Welcome to TS. I love this website too b/c there is such great advice on here about everything. If you ever have a question just ask and you will get lots of good advice. I also am reading Twinspiration. I love that book. It is very humorous and I usually read it while I am at my Dr. appointments b/c they take a while sometimes. Good luck and congratulations on twins.

I was also totally overwhelmed at first by the thought of carrying twins. I thought it automatically meant a problem pregnancy. I also have other children and work full time in sales. There is a lot to think about, so as you think of questions, write them down so that you have a list the next time you see your OB. Try to educate yourself, but don't read too much on-line or take everything you read to heart. I was a wreck because my girls share a placenta and I was so worried about TTTS; I worried about PTL because I work and chase little ones and excercise. But guess what? My pregnancy has been completely uneventful up to this point!

Take care of yourself, ask questions, and educate yourself; but don't feel like you are automatically destined to have a problem pregnancy! Enjoy!

Congrats and welcome! I highly recommend the Barbara Luke book that others mentioned -- it's very conservative and may scare you a bit, but I have been following the advice in it as best I can, and I really feel like it's paid off.

Looking forward to reading more about your experience!

    Welcome and congratulations!

I also had a 3 yr old and was shocked to learn I was pregnant with twins!! It was overwhelming to comprehend for a self-absorbed person like me but now that they're here, my twins are the best thing that ever happened to me.

I read several twin & pregnancy books during my seemingly infinite, miserable pregnancy but in my opinion this board was far better than any book. Here you have experienced twin moms + those experiencing what you are + those a little further along in their pregnancies to guide you and empathize with you. Visit the site often and you'll be amazed what you learn and how much support you'll receive.

    Congratulations again!! :hug99:

Congrats and welcome! I read a couple of the books mentioned in the pp, but I found the best source of real information to be right here!

I'll try to add some of the reviews we've done over the years on twin parenting books to our new reviews section (or you guys can do it yourself). Here's a review of 'When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads.

    http://www.twinstuff.com/index.php?ind=rev...iew&iden=12

And here's another review of Dr. Leiter's How to Have a Healthy Twin Pregnancy (released in 2000)

    http://www.twinstuff.com/index.php?ind=rev...iew&iden=13

Both of those review links allow parents who've read the books to rate them on a scale of 1-5.

Cheryl is a longtime member of Twinstuff! Glad to hear your review of her book!

I have found the best source of information to be here as well, I have not read any books. Multiple pregnancies can definitely be different than singletons but really there is nothing black and white about it, each pregnancy is sooo different. Some members work right up until their due date while others stop the moment they find out they are pregnant!

That's so great to hear!! And if she's around anywhere, you can tell her that i actually read it twice and frequently flip back thru it and see myself reflected in it all over again--the bookmark keeps moving around!

Congratulations on your twins! Having twins doesn't necessarily mean you are going to have a problem pregnancy. Many peris don't even treat di/di twins as very high risk. Identicals can have more problems but, again, your pregnancy may be a breeze. :) When you need to stop working will depend on your own situation and how you feel. One thing is for sure, you will get more tired & it will happen sooner with your twin pregnancy than you did with your singleton. My singleton pregnancy was also extremely easy and I'd say that 41 weeks with my singleton was about the equivalent of 32 weeks with the twins.

To those of you expecting twins CONGRATULATIONS!
You have an incredible, irreplaceable ride ahead :) :)
...and as others have mentioned, this is SUCH an amazing resource....
"Open 24 hours" (unlike the OB's or pediatrician's office ;) ) and an ever-encouraging fountain of support and empathy.

Dianne was so kind to send me an email about this thread....and
Omigosh! You guys TOTALLY just made my day! :)

It makes me happier than I can say to know that so many are finding "Twinspiration" helpful! :)
Truthfully, even if it just provides a "that lady is CRAZY" leaping point for folks to then develop their own plan of plural parenting, my hopes for the book have been fulfilled.

Wishing each and every one of you all the very best.
I can vouch for the fact that the twin-adventure continues....
Our Sarah just lost her first tooth today! (and it seems like both yesterday and a million years ago since it first came in...)

All the best, and thanks again for all the kind words....and thanks for the heads-up, Dianne!
(I cannot get over how big K & K have gotten! I remember when all of our twosomes were so teeny!)

When I was pregnant I read "Double Duty" and found it helpful....
After the twins arrived I really read the American Academy of Pediatrics "Caring for Your Baby from Birth to Age 5" ALL the time!

    Congratulations!

I have this book as well, Everything you Need to KNow to Having a Healthy Twin Pregnancy, by Dr. Gail Leiter. Also, I just subscribed to Twins Magazine. Additionally I am joining National Organization of Twins Club - attending my first meeting locally in a week. They are good for meeting other moms who have been there, done that and a great resource for gently used baby gear, etc. and even maternity clothes:). A thread at the beginning of this forum lists the essentials of what you need (equipment, clothes, gear) for twins. I am going to use it as a guide for when I register. Hope this helps:).

I would also recommend Having Twins by Elizabeth Nobel. It is a bit extreme in some ways about being pro vaginal birth, but I do think it has some interesting, valid information.

BTW, do what feels natural to you. I didn't eat a ton to gain a certain weight by a certain date as I think one of those books previously mentioned recommends, and I think my girls and I came out of pregnancy fine. I ate healthy foods when I felt hungry (lots of little snacks) and they gained at a nice rate and I luckily didn't gain a ton. Just make sure that no matter what any of the books tell you, that you are comfortable with the info or advice. HTH.

    Best wishes,
    Ellen
