I had my 34 week appointment today. I'm a little worried, and my doctor did nothing to make me feel better. They did the usual ultrasound and it took forever because the babies weren't moving as much as they like to see. So the tech sat there for about 15 minutes trying to get them to move. The twins finally moved, but I still didn't see a significant amount of movement but she said she did. So then the doctor comes in and looks at the pictures she took and stops on this picture of Twin B's placenta- he says "are you a smoker?"...I was like heck no. He said "hmm, this placenta looks a little more mature than it should be." I asked about it and he didn't really go into detail and didn't seem overly concerned? Why though? What the heck does this mean?!
Then they checked my cervix and said I'm still 1cm, 50% effaced. The nurse asked if I had a delivery date yet and I said NO but I would LOVE one! She said that Dr M (the one I saw today, he's ultra conservative) would probably want me to go as long as I can (WHAT!!!!), and I told her that Dr P (my favorite) said if they stayed head down I would be induced at 37 weeks- so the nurse told me to schedule my 37 week appt with Dr P. So I did. The appt is March 2 at 930- 3 weeks from today. With my luck, they will make me go longer for whatever reason.

Anyways, does anyone know anything about this placenta maturing thing? Is it considered placental abruption? I'm confused.

 I'm not sure what this is, but if you feel like they didn't explain enough to you and left you worried, I'd give them a call back. Ask to talk to your doctor and have things explained a little more so hopefully you won't be as worried. Keep us updated.

I only can give you example of my friend pregnancy with singelton.
She had the u/s and Tech asked her how much she smoked and she was shocked because she doesn't and the tech told her that her placenta either overdue Or women who smoke has the same placenta. and recomend her to pay attention more about her babies movement. she freak her out so much that they did induction in a week because they was afraid that baby is not safe inside. Baby was fine. but her due date was just couple of days away.

Sorry I know it's not much help. Talk to you OB about that.

that sounds exactly like the conversation I had with the doctor. He did ask me if I had been feeling the babies move..and I said yes- but I had told the tech that I don't feel them move as much as I used to. I am waiting for the nurse to call me because I called needing some explanation of this placenta thing- Im going to let her know that I dont feel them as much and see what she says. I hope they take me seriously and possibly bring me in again this week to look at it.

At my 33 week u/s, the Peri made a comment about my one placenta - something about it looking a little old. He wasn't concerned because it was still working just fine. I had weekly NSTs to monitor the babies and the placenta function. I had pre-e so maybe that was a factor. Anyway, I delivered at 34w6d with no placenta issues. I got a copy of the post-delivery report and the note said the placentas were both normal and healthy. As long as you're being monitored, there shouldn't be a problem. I would ask next time you go in just to put your mind at ease.
